Summary: The Buyer/Planner is responsible for the release, maintenance, and on-time delivery of purchase orders for raw materials, finished goods, and indirect materials, supporting manufacturing and customer sales. This role includes material consumption analysis, forecasting, and inventory management of imported materials. Effective and timely communication with Manufacturing and Commercial Operations is crucial to ensuring customer satisfaction.

Essential Functions:

• Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers
• Establish and maintain appropriate material planning parameters, including economic order quantities
• Place purchase orders, confirm delivery, and issue change orders to ensure timely delivery of raw materials and finished goods in alignment with manufacturing schedules and customer commitments
• Communicate delivery expectations, forecasts, design changes, lead time management, and material expedites or delays with suppliers to ensure on-time delivery
• Proactively avoid material shortages and communicate issues to the relevant functions
• Respond quickly to unforeseen developments and initiate actions to mitigate adverse impacts
• Maintain appropriate inventory levels of raw materials and finished goods
• Monitor supplier performance (on-time delivery and quality) and address performance issues
• Coordinate the resolution of supplier non-conformances, back-charges, and claims
• Maintain standard costs of purchased materials
• Manage purchase and inventory control of indirect materials (MRO), including capital expenditures
• Address invoice issues and reconcile material receipt discrepancies
• Assist in managing and controlling customs procedures and logistics for imported materials
• Negotiate and manage land freight contracts
• Support new product launches as needed

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in purchasing functions within a manufacturing environment
• Demonstrated proficiency in purchasing and planning using ERP systems
• Proven ability to establish and maintain material planning parameters
• Proficiency in Excel and other data management tools
• Strong knowledge of material planning parameters and inventory management
• Good communication and negotiation skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• Undergraduate or graduate degree in Supply Chain Management from an accredited institution
• APICS certification (CPIM)
• Experience in planning and logistics for importing materials
• Fluency in Spanish
• Knowledge in metals
