Job summary

Daktronics in Brookings, SD seeks a Purchasing/Materials Planner to optimize inventory and support MRP and MPS processes. You will place POs, transfer orders, and work orders to align production with demand, while ensuring timely supplier deliveries and accurate systems data.

You’ll review item attributes, address excess inventory, and drive process improvements across the factory. Collaboration with cross-functional teams is essential to meet growth and customer expectations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Math, Business, Economics, Finance, Operations Management, or a comparable field is required.
• Good computer skills. Glovia, Word, Excel, and Outlook are used.
• Ability to successfully participate as a member of a team.
• Effectively exercise discretion and independent judgment.
• Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills.
• Fluent in English, both written and verbal.

Responsibilities

• Ensure appropriate inventory is ordered on time and at the appropriate volume to support the MRP and MPS.
• Place purchase orders from preapproved suppliers, transfer orders, and work orders when scheduling production areas.
• Manage PO status, completing status calls and working with suppliers for on-time delivery.
• Ensure data problems are identified and resolved with accurate systems information.
• Review item attributes through daily item review.
• Review items to address excess inventory and create countermeasures.
• Continuously improve data handling and paperwork processes across the factory.
• Manage production schedules for a value stream within the factory.
• Communicate schedule changes to production area leaders.
• Communicate schedule shortcomings and shortages to Master Scheduler and Materials Manager.
• Perform other duties as assigned to meet growth and customer expectations.

What will the work look like for me?

• Ensure appropriate inventory is ordered on time and at the appropriate volume to support the Material Requirements Planning (MRP) and Master Production Schedule (MPS). The buying function also includes expediting or de-expediting material as required by the MRP/MPS process and following the escalation process when issues arise.
• Place purchase orders (POs) from preapproved suppliers, transfer orders (TOs) from other Daktronics factories, and work orders (WO) when scheduling production areas.
• Manage PO status, completing status calls and interacting with suppliers to ensure prompt inventory materials delivery.
• Ensure data problems are identified and resolved. Must maintain accurate systems information in support of MPS viability.
• Review item attributes through daily item review.
• Review items to address excess inventory and create countermeasures to stop excess from accumulating.
• Look continuously to improve ways we manage data and process paperwork throughout the factory.
• Manage production schedules for a value stream within the factory.
• Communicate schedule changes to the leaders of production areas.
• Communicate schedule shortcomings and/or part shortages to Master Scheduler and Materials Manager.
• Perform other duties as assigned and needed to meet Daktronics growth and customer expectations.
