Job summary

Pursuit Aerospace in South Windsor, CT, is hiring a Buyer II to manage purchasing activities with increasing independence. You will own assigned commodities, negotiate with suppliers, and partner with planning, engineering, quality, and operations to support production and cost objectives.

This 100% onsite role emphasizes lean practices, supplier performance, and cost-reduction initiatives while developing expertise in supplier relations and manufacturing operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, Business, Operations, Engineering, or related field AND 3 years of purchasing, supply chain, or manufacturing operations experience OR 5 years in lieu of degree.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis without sponsorship.
  • Must be able to perform work subject to ITAR/EAR regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Orders production material using ERP/MRP and reorder rules.
  • Coordinates changes to PO quantities or delivery dates.
  • Maintain accuracy of purchasing records and data.
  • Communicate with suppliers on specs and transitions.
  • Identify new suppliers to reduce costs and improve quality and service.
  • Manage inventory levels to reduce stock while ensuring supply.
  • Create reports for assigned commodities and support tendering requirements.
  • Resolve supply, quality, and delivery issues with minimal supervision.

About the Opportunity:

The Buyer II role provides an opportunity to manage purchasing activities with increasing independence and responsibility. This position owns assigned commodities or suppliers, executes negotiations, and partners cross-functionally with planning, engineering, quality, and operations teams to support production and cost objectives. The Buyer II contributes to continuous improvement and cost-reduction initiatives while developing deeper expertise in supplier performance, material planning, and manufacturing operations.

Location: South Windsor, CT

This role will be 100% onsite and works first shift 7:00AM -3:30PM

Responsibilities:

  • Orders production material using ERP/MRP and reorder rules to predetermine inventory guidelines.
  • Coordinates changes to purchase order quantities or delivery dates, as required per production plan.
  • Responsible for timely updating, accuracy, and integrity of purchasing records and data.
  • Issue, Maintain and file/archive the Quotation and Purchase Order records.
  • Updates suppliers on changes to specifications and arranges for effective transitions.
  • Identify new suppliers to reduce costs and increase quality and service.
  • Address all receiving, invoicing and paperwork issues within a timely manner, and drive to resolution.
  • Manages inventory levels to reduce inventory while ensuring supply availability using lean manufacturing techniques.
  • Ability to create reports for assigned commodities, and support all of the tendering requirements for that commodity.
  • Effective problem-solving capabilities in challenging and demanding situations, and ability to focus on ever shifting priorities.
  • Monitor/Expedite the Purchase Order requirements for suppliers and maintain the current commitments within the system.
  • Ensure appropriate lead times are set for new and / or existing Part Numbers and maintained in the system. Negotiate with potential suppliers of products and services to achieve team goals and meet standard Ts and Cs.
  • Utilize system to receive material/service requirements through requisitions and monitor delivery receipts by examining the system's data bases.
  • Collaborates with planning, engineering, quality, and operations teams
  • Resolves supply, quality, and delivery issues with minimal supervision
  • Participates in cost reduction and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, Business, Operations, Engineering, or related field AND 3 years of purchasing, supply chain, or manufacturing operations experience – OR – in lieu of degree, 5 years of purchasing, supply chain, or manufacturing operations experience
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis without sponsorship now or in the future. The Company cannot offer employment to visa holders who require employer sponsorship in the future or cannot work now on a full-time basis.
  • Must be able to perform work subject to ITAR/EAR regulations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of aerospace and/or manufacturing experience
  • Strong understanding of Lean, Six Sigma, and other process optimization tools to drive efficiency and readiness.
  • Ability to manage cross-functional and matrixed teams and drive collaboration across departments.
  • Ability to analyze production data, identify trends, and make informed decisions regarding readiness planning and process improvement.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment requiring you to pivot and adjust quickly to changing priorities and conditions.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively engage and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent computer skills, Excel, Word and PowerPoint

Working Conditions

  • Requires mobility in a manufacturing plant environment while using Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Must be able to frequently sit, stand and walk.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 15 pounds.
  • Personal protective equipment (e.g., safety glasses and safety shoes) is required on the shop floor
  • Occasional weekend and evening work may be required to accommodate priorities, deadlines, and schedules.
