Job summary

The University of Houston is seeking a procurement professional in the Purchasing Department to manage the acquisition of materials, equipment and supplies for a complex academic environment. You will negotiate with vendors, process purchases in compliance with state and institutional policies, and guide junior staff while maintaining records and reporting on pricing trends.

• Interprets and communicates purchasing procedures to departments; assists departments in initiating requisitions and orders and resolves purchasing problems between department and vendor.
• Monitors records regarding pricing and ordering of materials, prepares report analysis and make recommendations.
• Conducts on-going research to remain apprised of the most current market trends and techniques to ensure the most cost-efficient purchases.
• May provide guidance and direction to entry level Buyers.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned

MQ: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed.

Requires a minimum of five (5) years of directly job-related experience.
