Job summary

Akron Brass, part of IDEX, is seeking a purchasing professional to procure components for production and customer needs, and to maintain inventory control. The role reports to a Purchasing Supervisor and requires strong organizational skills, accurate execution, and effective communication with technical resources.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in purchasing, and experience with machined components is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plan, order, and manage incoming goods/services from select suppliers to achieve cost and service objectives.
• Select suppliers to best fulfill Akron Brass needs (price, delivery, quality).
• Resolve daily operating issues with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
• Identify opportunities for cost reduction, supplier value-added resources, inventory management and quality improvement.
• Drive customer satisfaction through timely results on situational needs.
• Manage supplier relationships to achieve goals and implement supplier strategies.
• Assist in the negotiation of price and terms/conditions.

Summary Of Job Responsibilities

The buyer is responsible for procuring components to support production and customer needs, along with inventory control.

REPORTS TO (Title) : Purchasing Supervisor

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Plan, order, and manage incoming goods/services from select suppliers to achieve cost and service objectives
• Select suppliers to best fulfill Akron Brass needs (price, delivery, quality, etc)
• Working within the capacity of a service organization, resolve daily operating issues with suppliers and internal stake holders
• Analyze and recommend opportunities for cost reduction, supplier value added resources, inventory management, and quality enhancement
• Drive for customer satisfaction, both external and internal, through timely results on situational needs
• Manage supplier relationships to best achieve predetermined goals including implementing and overseeing supplier specific strategies
• Assist in the negotiation of price and terms/conditions including basic understanding of contract management and driving to agreed goals
• Assist in the evaluation of preferred suppliers
• Identify opportunities for process development, personally, as well as intra- and inter-departmentally
• Identify opportunities for inventory improvement (lead time, MOQ, reorder point)

• Must have excellent communication skills, with ability to communicate with technical resources
• Demonstrated ability to thoroughly follow through with appropriate urgency

• Working understanding of prints and machining processes

Education And Experience

• Associates degree in Business Administration (or related degree) or equivalent work experience
• 5+ years’ experience in a purchasing role
• Experience with machined components preferred

Work Environment

• Perform general office functions.
• Visual acuity needed for close detail work and computer use.
• General manufacturing, warehouse and office environment.
