Position Overview
Buyer – Stanley Access Technologies, Greenfield, IN. The Material Buyer is an active team member responsible for planning and scheduling the delivery of material from suppliers to avoid shortages and production downtime, while managing inventory levels to meet customer service and inventory targets.
Responsibilities
- Receive and analyze requisitions to determine quantity, specifications, and delivery requirements.
- Recommend and select suppliers from the approved list to fulfill scheduled plant deliveries.
- Maintain up‑to‑date ABC classification and key inputs into the PFEP process.
- Conduct vendor onboarding, training, and periodic site visits/audits.
- Maintain optimal inventory levels and safety stock for parts.
- Coordinate with Quality Assurance to resolve quality issues with suppliers.
- Proactively identify and manage shortages, flag root cause and corrective actions.
- Analyze and select parts for SOMI/consigned inventory and supplier replenishment.
- Expedite deliveries to meet and exceed critical requirements.
- Maintain the material plan at the time fence to ensure continuity of supply.
- Coordinate with production planners when parts cannot be delivered as promised.
- Evaluate supplier performance and elevate issues when necessary.
- Resolve invoicing discrepancies with suppliers and accounting.
- Analyze material and capacity availability to provide promised customer dates for sales orders.
- Maintain item master lead time information based on process improvements and current demand.
- Manage internal and SOMI/VMI material and parameters to meet schedules.
- Interface with functional groups to resolve challenging delivery requirements.
- Communicate forecasts and replenishment plans to suppliers.
- Review open requirements, monitor vendor performance, and expedite where necessary.
- Convey delivery, quality or pricing issues to suppliers and ensure timely resolution.
- Maintain product knowledge, material specifications, and supply options.
- Understand Kanban and JIT systems and supplier capabilities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of planner/buyer experience in manufacturing.
- Certification in production and inventory management preferred.
- Considerable knowledge of the industry‑related supply base.
- Skilled in production and supplier scheduling.
- Knowledgeable of supplier processes and capabilities.
- Experience with operations, inventory management, MRP, and lean manufacturing processes.
- Experience with visual management systems.
- Computer proficient with ERP and Microsoft Office.
- Basic mathematical skills.
- Strong customer service orientation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Team‑oriented and able to work cohesively with others.
- Ability to work well with external suppliers.
- Detail‑oriented and self‑motivated with minimal supervision.
- Fast‑paced, multi‑tasked work environment proficiency.
- Legal authorization to be employed in the United States; the company does not provide sponsorship for employment visa status.
