Job summary

Allegion is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Manager to lead a team designing and improving access control and automatic door systems. You will oversee NPD, VAVE initiatives, and ECN/MCN processes while ensuring accurate data alignment across Windchill, ERP, and cutsheets.

The role requires 5+ years of leadership in mechanical engineering, with Creo and Windchill/D365 proficiency. Travel about 25% between Farmington, CT and Mt. Comfort, IN is expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; Master’s preferred.
  • 5+ years engineering leadership experience.
  • Proficiency in Creo and PLM/ERP systems (Windchill and D365).
  • Knowledge of NPD and VAVE; experience with aluminum extrusion and castings.
  • Strong problem solving and cross-functional leadership abilities.
  • Willingness to travel 25% between Farmington, CT and Mt. Comfort, IN.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and mentor the mechanical engineering and configuration teams, planning resources to align capacity with high-value priorities.
  • Oversee New Product Development (NPD), legacy product updates, and VAVE initiatives, streamlining design reviews and time-to-market.
  • Direct the engineering change process and manage configuration resources to resolve legacy data issues, auditing 3D models and drawings across Windchill, ERP, and cutsheets.
  • Lead cross-functional Tiger Teams to rapidly resolve problem reports, field escalations, and complex manufacturing/installation issues (Transit projects).
  • Manage and optimize enterprise engineering tools and drive part-centric rollouts, promoting innovation with advanced tools like FEA and 3D printing.
  • Collaborate with Global Supply Management to onboard suppliers, evaluate PPAP documentation, and optimize product designs for manufacturability.

Mechanical Engineering Manager - Stanley Access Technologies

Location: Farmington, CT or Greenfield, IN (Greenfield, IN 6825 West 400 North)

The Mechanical Engineering Manager is responsible for leading a team of mechanical engineers in the design, development, and continuous improvement of access control and automatic door systems. This role oversees New Product Development (NPD), Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE), quality improvements, and engineering tool enhancements while fostering an engaged, inclusive, and high‑performing team culture. Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States; sponsorship for employment visa status will not be provided.

What You Will Do
  • Lead, coach, and mentor the mechanical engineering and configuration teams, performing data‑driven manpower planning and strategic resource alignment to ensure capacity focuses on high‑value business priorities while driving team engagement (Gallup, DE&I, 5S).
  • Oversee New Product Development (NPD), legacy product updates (e.g., Dura‑Storm), and VAVE initiatives, instilling a bias for action to streamline Phase & Gate readiness, design reviews (MEDR/IDR), and time‑to‑market.
  • Direct the engineering change process (ECN/MCN/CIB) and manage configuration resources to resolve legacy product data issues, auditing 3D models, drawings, and Part‑Centric structures for accurate alignment across Windchill, ERP, and cutsheets.
  • Champion “cradle‑to‑grave” ownership by leading cross‑functional Tiger Teams to rapidly resolve Problem Reports (PRs), field escalations, and complex manufacturing/installation issues, including large‑scale Transit projects.
  • Manage and optimize enterprise engineering tools (Allegion Atlas/Windchill, ERP) and drive Part‑Centric rollouts, promoting innovation through advanced tools like FEA, 3D printing, and AI (AlleGPT).
  • Collaborate with Global Supply Management (GSM) to drive productivity, onboard new suppliers, evaluate PPAP documentation, and optimize product designs for manufacturability, installation, and service.
What You Need to Succeed
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Experience: 5+ years of engineering experience, including a proven track record in a leadership, talent development, or managerial role.
  • Technical Proficiency: High proficiency in 3D CAD software (Creo preferred) and PLM/ERP systems (Windchill/Microsoft Dynamics D365); strong understanding of engineering change processes (ECN/MCN), ERP configurators, and BOM management.
  • Product & Manufacturing Knowledge: Extensive experience executing NPD and VAVE, with familiarity in manufacturing processes such as aluminum extrusion, castings, and finishing. Knowledge of electro‑mechanical systems is a plus.
  • Problem Solving & Cross‑Functional Leadership: Excellent structured problem‑solving skills (5‑Why, 8D, Root‑Cause Analysis) with the ability to lead cross‑functional Tiger Teams and take uncompromising ownership of issue resolution across departmental borders.
  • Strategic Execution & Resource Management: Demonstrated ability to perform manpower planning, develop business cases, and strategically align engineering and configuration resources to maximize team performance, efficiency, and ROI.
  • Travel: Expected 25% travel between Farmington, CT and Mt. Comfort, IN locations.
  • Communication & Culture: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a passion for fostering an inclusive workplace, driving team engagement, and instilling urgency across the organization.
