Job summary

CB&I is seeking a Buyer/Procurement professional to identify sources, evaluate bids, and manage purchase orders for steel plates and related commodities. You will interact with engineering, operations and estimating teams, ensuring compliance with technical specs and quality standards.

Responsibilities include preparing bid documents, distributing RFQs, negotiating terms, and driving cost-reduction initiatives while maintaining schedule integrity.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS in Supply Chain, Business, Technical/Engineering or related field preferred.
  • Experience with steel plate procurement and supplier evaluation.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills required.

Overview

The Buyer is responsible for identifying varied sources of commodities and services, evaluate bids, awards contracts and purchase orders, maintains contact with vendors, and maintains comprehensive descriptions of available products and current prices of CB&I Storage Solutions' products and services. The role directly reports to the Sr Procurement Manager and routinely interacts with Engineering, Operations and Estimating.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares contract documents and bidders list, proactively seeks out and qualifies new potential bidders.
  • Assembles and distributes requests for quotation from vendors.
  • Responsible for purchase of material and services at or below estimate using procurement processes while maintaining consistency with schedule requirements.
  • Perform bid evaluations and issue purchase orders for commodity items and finished goods
  • Negotiate small to medium value purchase orders for regional and/or international purchases
  • Assists with the evaluation, award and conforming process.
  • Able to resolve simple claim or dispute events with vendors.
  • May be responsible for soliciting budgetary pricing for equipment, material, or labor to support estimating/proposal efforts for a non-major project or projects.
  • Proactively recommends, supports and implements improvements to tools, systems and software to improve efficiency and maximize autonomy.

Qualifications
  • 1-5 Years of relevant work experience
  • EPC Industry experience is preferred.
  • BA or BS degree in Supply Chain, Business, Technical / Engineering, Construction Management or related field (Preferred).
  • Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems
  • Source and procure steel plate from approved and new suppliers.
  • Analyze demands and production schedules to determine steel plate requirements.
  • Solicit and evaluate supplier quotations, negotiate pricing, delivery terms, and payment conditions.
  • Issue purchase orders (POs) and manage order confirmations and changes.
  • Ensure compliance with technical specifications, industry standards, and quality requirements.
  • Collaborate with engineering, project managers, and quality control
  • Monitor market trends, commodity pricing, and supply chain risks related to steel.
  • Maintain accurate procurement records and data in ERP systems.
  • Evaluate supplier performance and contribute to supplier development and sourcing strategies.
  • Support cost reduction initiatives and supply chain improvement projects.
  • Experience with steel or metal commodities, especially steel plate, is strongly preferred.
  • Strong negotiation, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Understanding of material specifications, grades, and tolerances for steel plate.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and technical specifications (preferred).
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
