HumCap's client is hiring a Business Unit Manager to lead their semiconductor accounts and the team of four to five people who serve them. This is a full-time, onsite role in Plano, Texas, reporting to executive leadership, with occasional travel.
Our client is a full-turnkey electronics manufacturer with in-house electrical engineering and PCB layout.
About the Role
The Business Unit Manager owns relationships with some of the world's leading semiconductor companies. Much of the work is early-stage R&D: advanced boards, including server platforms years from market, built in small, high-value runs where a single board can be worth $100,000. Other programs run in mid-volume production.
The goal is to grow each account from prototype into production. That happens when customers trust engineering insight early and want to keep the work in-house. This person is part of our leadership team, not an individual contributor, and moves customer knowledge across engineering, production, planning, and procurement.
What You'll Do
- Lead a team of 4-5 program managers, coordinators, and quoting staff; set priorities, coach, and hold the team accountable for deliverables
- Own the semiconductor customer relationships, including quarterly business reviews and regular program reviews
- Grow each account from R&D and prototype work into production, finding upsell and expansion opportunities
- Stay actively engaged with customer engineers: understand technical questions, spot critical issues early, and get the right internal experts involved
- Serve on the leadership team, sharing customer knowledge and solving problems with engineering, production planning, procurement, and quality
- Manage schedules, deadlines, and bottlenecks proactively, working with internal managers to rebalance priorities
- Oversee customer order entry and exceptions in the ERP, and keep customers updated on finished-goods delivery
- Partner with planning and procurement to forecast the account pipeline
- Report program status and business results to executive management
- Build standards, templates, and processes that improve how the business unit runs
What You Bring
Required
- Bachelors or higher in engineering or related technical field
- 5+ years in electronics manufacturing (EMS/contract manufacturing) or a related technical industry, in program management, account management, or business unit leadership
- Experience serving semiconductor customers, or working inside a semiconductor company
- Proven people leadership: you have managed a team, or worked closely with strong leaders and know what good management looks like
- Experience at an established manufacturer with mature processes for program management, quoting, planning, and customer communication
- Enough technical depth to follow engineering discussions on PCBAs and electromechanical assemblies, and to know which questions to ask
Preferred
- Background in sales, account growth, or customer-facing business development
- Experience with high-mix, low-volume R&D and prototype builds as well as volume production
- PMP or similar program management certification
