Job description

Are you ready to run a business, not just manage within one?

Raptor Scientific provides precision test and measurement solutions for mission-critical aerospace, defense, and space applications. As part of TransDigm Group, Raptor Scientific combines the autonomy and visibility of a focused operating company with the resources and career opportunities of a global aerospace leader.

We are looking for a Business Unit Manager to lead a business unit comprising several product lines. You will own the P&L, set the direction of the product portfolio, and lead a cross-functional team across sales, engineering, operations, quality, supply chain, contracts, and finance.

This is a hands-on business leadership role with real authority and clear accountability. You will be expected to create value by growing sales, expanding EBITDA, generating cash, strengthening the team, and delivering for customers.

Why Join Raptor Scientific?
  • Run a business: Own the strategy, P&L, product portfolio, customer relationships, and operating performance of a complete business unit.
  • Lead products that matter: Help develop and support highly engineered products used where accuracy, reliability, and safety are critical.
  • Make a visible impact: Work directly with senior leaders, make decisions quickly, and see the results of those decisions.
  • Build your career: The BUM role is a key proving ground for broader leadership responsibility. High performers build the experience and track record needed to advance within Raptor Scientific or across TransDigm Group.
Primary Responsibilities
Own the Business
  • Own the P&L: Take full responsibility for bookings, sales, EBITDA, and cash generation.
  • Deliver the plan: Build and execute the annual operating plan and long-term growth plan. Identify gaps early, take action, and deliver commitments.
  • Know the numbers: Understand the drivers of performance, use data to make decisions, and hold the organization accountable for results.
Drive Value Creation
  • Value-based pricing: Set and execute pricing based on the value of our products, market position, and customer alternatives.
  • Productivity and cost improvement: Reduce costs, improve processes, strengthen execution, and improve working capital.
  • Profitable new business: Identify and win business that strengthens the product portfolio and meets our financial objectives.
Lead the Market and Customer
  • Own customer relationships: Serve as the senior business contact for key customers, OEMs, distributors, and end users.
  • Lead customer and contract decisions: Direct proposals and contract negotiations while protecting profitability and making achievable commitments.
  • Set portfolio direction: Understand the market, competition, and position of each product line. Set priorities for growth, investment, and resources across the business unit.
Lead Execution and People
  • Lead the team: Align sales, engineering, operations, quality, supply chain, contracts, and finance around clear business priorities.
  • Solve problems: Take ownership of business, technical, and operational issues and drive them to resolution.
  • Build the team: Set clear expectations, develop people, address performance issues, and build leadership depth.
  • Communicate performance: Lead monthly business reviews with a clear assessment of results, outlook, risks, and required actions.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required; engineering, technology, or business degree preferred. An advanced degree is helpful but not required.
  • Five or more years of increasing leadership responsibility in aerospace, defense, technology, precision manufacturing, or a related industrial business.
  • Demonstrated ownership of a P&L or its major drivers, including sales, EBITDA, pricing, cash, and operating execution.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams and delivering results through people who may not report directly to you.
  • A record of working directly with customers, negotiating contracts, and winning profitable new business.
What We Value
  • Owner mindset: Takes responsibility for the whole business, acts with urgency, and follows through on commitments.
  • Business judgment: Understands what drives sales, profitability, and cash and makes sound business decisions.
  • Bias for Action: Uses data, makes decisions, and drives action.
