Business Unit Leader of Construction Management & Inspection

Otak is seeking a Construction Management & Inspection (CMI) Business Unit Leader to support our Oregon and Southwest Washington region. In this leadership role, you will drive the growth of our CMI team and business, managing client relationships, increasing sales, and overseeing financial performance. We are looking for a proactive professional with strong project and people-management skills, a track record of successful project delivery, and the ability to expand business with existing clients while effectively marketing Otak’s services to new opportunities. This position may be based out of our Portland, OR or Vancouver, WA office.

What you’ll do:
  • Provide strategic leadership by providing managerial guidance on a regional level, inspiring the team to ensure that the firm’s vision and mission are achieved by setting appropriate milestones and benchmarks.
  • Actively engage in business development, leveraging expertise to identify, pursue and secure new opportunities for growth.
  • Prepare technical approaches/scope, schedule, and budgets for proposals.
  • Track and analyze key performance indicators monthly including revenue, profit, accounts receivable, utilization, backlog, and project variances and write-offs.
  • Partner with marketing to develop winning professional proposals, participate in go/no-go decisions, and prepare for client interviews.
  • Oversee team operations and development including hiring, training and performance management.
  • Manage construction projects with Federal funding, as administered through DOT’s and local agencies within Washington and Oregon.
What you bring:
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, (or equivalency in direct field of experience) or related area.
  • Active Professional Engineering License in Oregon and Washington or ability to obtain within 1 year.
  • 10+ years of experience in a variety of public construction projects (e.g. roadways, highways, trails, bridges, utilities, etc.).
  • 15+ years of progressive experience in the management of personnel, project budgets, and team financials.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work with various teams throughout the organization.
  • Extensive experience as a Construction Manager with knowledge of material properties, DOT specifications and contract administration practices preferred.
  • A customer-oriented seller-doer who understands how to sell Otak's services, grow our business and deliver high quality work.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and meet driving record requirements.

The salary information shown below is a general guideline only. Salaries are based upon candidate experience, qualifications, and work location as well as market and business considerations.

Salary Range: $135,000 - $170,000 per year
