Job summary

The Chronicle Of Higher Education, Inc. is seeking a Director of Enterprise Application Services to implement Data Governance initiatives. This role supervises a team of analysts, provides operational support for core administrative systems, and engages in various data-related tasks, from reporting to training.

Candidates should hold a Bachelor’s degree and have a minimum of 4 years’ professional experience in a similar role. The position requires strong interpersonal and communication skills as well as the ability to work effectively with diverse groups.

Job description

Title: Director, Enterprise Application Services

Summary

This position is responsible for implementing Data Governance initiatives, supervising a team of Business System and Intelligence Analysts, and providing operational support for core administrative systems including understanding university business processes, documenting procedures, training, data loading, bulk email communications, report writing, data visualization, and system access requests.

Responsibilities and Essential Duties
  • Supervisor responsibilities for a team of Business System and Intelligence Analysts.
  • Chair the Data Stewardship Council and support the institution’s pursuit of data governance.
  • Create and execute queries, reports, and data visualizations using campus software reporting tools (including WebFOCUS and SQL).
  • Generate bulk email communications.
  • Process data loads.
  • Assist in application configuration/setup for new software.
  • Develop guidelines, test plans, training, and documentation for supported software and associated business processes.
  • Review questions/issues with supported software and determine if the software is working as intended; follow up with vendors and campus partners.
  • Assist in testing new releases.
  • Provide periodic support outside of regular business hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Work independently and as part of a team.
  • Process access requests for core administrative systems.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work; actively engage in university continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Apply safety‑related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work.
Required Education, Certifications, Licensures

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.

Required Experience
  • Minimum 4 years’ professional experience in an administrative application support role as a business systems analyst or similar responsibilities.
  • Professional experience writing SQL.
  • Relevant experience writing reports.
Desirable Education and/or Experience
  • Experience supporting an ERP system.
  • Experience working in higher education.
  • Experience with Data Governance.
  • Experience supervising people.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills related to complex IT topics.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with technical and non‑technical audiences at all levels through written and verbal communication with attention to detail.
