Job Description

The Business Risk Specialist supports the identification, assessment, management, and resolution of business risks, with an emphasis on higher-risk loss mitigation matters. These issues may involve compliance, regulatory, fair-lending, operational, or customer-impact concerns requiring specialized oversight.

This role partners with business lines and customer remediation teams to understand how an issue occurred, identify process or system gaps, coordinate corrective actions, and track commitments through completion. The specialist will also review supporting evidence and document completed work to help confirm that risks have been appropriately and sustainably addressed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor systems, databases, processes, procedures, and business information to identify matters requiring review or escalation.
  • Research and analyze higher-risk loss mitigation issues to determine root causes and identify potential process or system gaps.
  • Coordinate corrective actions with business partners, clarify required deliverables, track progress, and identify obstacles that could affect completion.
  • Provide guidance, support, and recommendations to lines of business regarding risk-related activities and commitments.
  • Review testing results, reports, and supporting documentation to validate that corrective actions have been completed and are sustainable.
  • Prepare clear and comprehensive written documentation summarizing commitments, completed actions, supporting evidence, and any justified deviations from the original plan.
  • Support customer remediation efforts involving matters such as fees, credit reporting, foreclosure-related impacts, or other adverse customer outcomes.
  • Review impacted customer or loan populations to determine whether records were appropriately included or excluded.
  • Examine loan-level information, sample records, and work with business partners to confirm that affected populations are complete and accurate.
  • Track customer remediation activities through completion, including corrective actions intended to make impacted customers whole.
  • Collect, compile, and analyze data and assist with the development of reports.
  • Manage multiple assignments with different deadlines and levels of complexity while proactively escalating concerns that could affect established target dates.
  • Contribute to business risk projects, initiatives, and process improvement
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience
  • Two to three years of applicable experience
Preferred Skills/Experience
  • Experience researching, investigating, and analyzing complex business or operational issues.
  • Strong written communication and documentation skills.
  • Strong organization and time-management skills, with the ability to independently manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to identify inconsistencies, question unclear information, and investigate concerns before reaching a conclusion.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with business partners, clarify responsibilities, and proactively elevate issues.
  • Sound judgment, integrity, curiosity, initiative, and a commitment to completing high-quality work.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to team priorities and supporting colleagues when needed.
  • Experience reviewing data, reports, or record populations for accuracy and completeness.
  • Loss mitigation experience is preferred.
  • Experience supporting risk management, compliance, regulatory, customer remediation, or financial services activities is preferred.
