Job summary

City of Leander is seeking an Economic Development Specialist to manage the BRE program and support other economic development initiatives. You will build relationships with Leander businesses, provide guidance to small businesses, and coordinate with workforce and educational partners.

The role involves research, reporting, and collaboration with City departments, chambers of commerce, and regional partners to support business retention, expansion, and attraction efforts.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Economic Development, Business Administration, Public Administration, Economics, Marketing, Urban Planning, Finance, Real Estate, or a related field is preferred.
• Two years of experience in economic development, business development, business retention and expansion, small-business assistance, workforce development, community development, municipal government, or a related field is preferred.
• Six years of combined education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Manage and implement the City’s BRE program, including outreach, visits, follow-up, reporting and performance tracking.
• Build and maintain relationships with existing Leander businesses as the primary BRE contact.
• Identify business challenges, expansion opportunities, workforce needs, and coordinate resources.
• Develop relationships with locally owned small businesses and entrepreneurs and provide information on programs and City services.
• Identify employer workforce needs through BRE activities and connect businesses with workforce resources.
• Maintain relationships with workforce, education, chamber and economic development partners.
• Support business attraction via inquiries, demographic/workforce/property data, and project follow-ups.
