Job description

At Morris Furniture Company, our values represent our distinctive core beliefs-the Morris way of doing business. Our Mission is \"Making Homes Great\" and we bring our mission to life through our values of: Professionalism, Quality, Ownership, Collaboration, Integrity and Fun.

Purpose:

The Business Process Engineer is a hands-on, embedded process builder who partners directly with departments across Morris Furniture Company's corporate headquarters, Customer Care, Distribution, and retail store teams to review and understand current processes, design the standard, and implement improvements directly, often using AI and automation tools built by the role.

This role produces outputs; it does not provide guidance. The Business Process Engineer writes the SOPs, supports the completion of important tasks, builds the automations, ensures standards are met, and proves the results with data.

Reporting to the VP of Business Operations, this role deploys into prioritized departments on assignment, diagnosing where results fall short of expectation, building the process and tooling needed to close the gap, and implementing the change on the ground.

A key priority of this role is instrumenting a sustainable, data-driven operating cadence and equipping leaders and teams with AI-enabled tools and training that drive lasting improvements in efficiency, accountability, and performance.

General Description of duties:

This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. Employees may perform other related duties to meet the ongoing needs of the organization. Ensure adherence to designated policies and procedures with a company focus on mind.

Department Deployment & Diagnosis

  • Deploy into prioritized departments on assignment; Embed directly within the assigned department, working alongside frontline staff to observe, execute, and improve daily operations.

  • Generate evidence-based recommendations grounded in real operational practice.

  • Diagnose performance gaps by defining the standard, measuring actual output, and isolating root causes across process, tools, data, skills, or accountability.

  • Use targeted questioning to surface critical operational details and build a working model of each department’s complexity.

  • Translate performance gaps into measurable impact (dollars, hours, units).

Process Design & Implementation

  • Build visibility into what is not meeting expectation by creating automated dashboards and trackers that surface KPI shortfalls at company, market, location, and individual levels; understand data sources and critically validate data across multiple systems

  • Drive workflow changes end-to-end: rollout, training, floor support, adoption, and post-launch auditing.

  • Organize, document, and transfer ownership of processes to others; ownership extends past delivery to sustained use

  • Instrument the operating cadence by wiring departmental goals into live \"X to Y by When\" tracking so progress, ownership, and misses are visible without deck assembly

  • Convert corrected workflows into clear, intuitive SOPs that replace tribal knowledge with standardized practice.

  • Build and organize work balance charts per person or team, listing task/project, time, cadence, who is cross-trained, documentation links, and more

AI & Automation Tooling

  • Design and deploy automations, agent workflows, and prompt libraries that remove recurring manual reporting, summarization, data cleanup, and document prep

  • Train non-technical leaders to confidently use and maintain delivered AI tools.

Training & Development

  • Conduct in-person or virtual courses to support the development of other team members and leaders in engaging with AI and using it to become more productive and drive better results and decision-making

Additional Support

  • At times, support departments or projects to ensure standard work is completed with quality in a timely manner

  • Lead and support key initiatives that advance business priorities and organizational goals.

  • Support specific departments on critical work requirements, initiatives, or change management to achieve department or company level performance goals and deadlines.

Qualifications:

  • Strong critical thinking and structured problem-solving ability, with experience applying Lean Six Sigma or similar continuous improvement methodologies

  • Proven ability to build and document standard operating procedures that drive consistency and adoption

  • Comfortable independently designing and deploying AI-enabled tools, automations, and workflows quickly and with minimal support

  • Strong data literacy; able to validate and reconcile data across multiple systems to quantify performance gaps

  • Effective trainer and communicator, able to build trust and drive adoption directly with frontline teams and leaders

  • Self-directed and comfortable operating as an embedded \"doer\" within another team's day-to-day operations

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Technology, or a related field required; or equivalent combination of experience and education. MBA preferred

  • Demonstrated experience with continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean Six Sigma)

  • Hands‑on experience building AI-enabled tools, automations, or workflow solutions

  • Ability to work primarily on-site in Dayton, OH, with up to one remote day per week

  • Willingness to embed full-time within departments on assignment, including corporate, Customer Care, Distribution, and retail store teams
