Derflan is actively seeking a highly analytical and motivated Business Intelligence Engineer II to join our consulting team. This full-time, in-office consulting role supports a large tech client and is based in Seattle, WA. The ideal candidate thrives on solving complex problems with data, enjoys building scalable BI systems, and is excited to support operational and technical initiatives through deep analytics and insights.

This role is well-suited for professionals with strong technical expertise in SQL, Python, and BI visualization tools, as well as experience in data architecture and statistical analysis.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect and maintain end-to-end BI solutions including datasets, pipelines, ETL processes, and reporting tools

• Build and maintain scalable data pipelines using SQL, Python, and AWS services (e.g., Redshift, Glue, Andes)

• Develop dashboards and reports using visualization tools like Amazon QuickSight or Tableau

• Collaborate with stakeholders to define business requirements and develop scalable data models

• Analyze pipeline gaps and implement improvements to enhance reliability and performance

• Support system migrations and metadata development for improved reporting accuracy

• Participate in agile ceremonies, stakeholder meetings, and working sessions to troubleshoot issues and align priorities

• Develop quality assurance tools and auditing frameworks to support long-term BI sustainability

• Maintain comprehensive documentation and a centralized knowledge base for BI assets

What You’ll Do Day-to-Day

• Write, optimize, and troubleshoot complex SQL queries

• Collaborate with engineers to design effective ETL processes

• Analyze ambiguous business problems and translate them into defined analytics projects

• Maintain clean, version-controlled documentation for BI systems and processes

• Ensure reporting accuracy and consistency across teams and tools

Top 3 Required Technical Skills

• SQL & Python Development (4–6 years): Advanced proficiency required

• BI Tools & Visualization (4–6 years): Experience with Tableau, QuickSight, or similar tools

• Data Architecture & Pipelines (2–5 years): Hands-on experience with AWS-based infrastructure and large data sets

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (Master’s in Computer Science, Statistics, or Data Science a plus)

• Experience with AWS tools like Redshift, Glue, Andes, and S3

• Strong understanding of data modeling, experimentation, or statistical techniques

• Excellent communication skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders
