Job summary

Business Development Specialist, US Renewables

Capital Power seeks an innovative and results‑oriented individual to join our Business Development Specialist, US Renewables team in the United States. Reporting to the Sr Specialist, Business Development, US Renewables, the role supports the identification, evaluation, and execution of opportunities to develop or acquire utility‑scale renewable energy assets, including wind, solar, and energy storage.

Responsibilities
Project & Business Development
  • Supporting identification and evaluation of development and acquisition opportunities for renewable and energy storage projects
  • Assisting with project development activities, including coordination of cross‑functional teams (engineering, legal, finance, regulatory)
  • Contributing to due diligence efforts for potential investments and acquisitions
Market & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Building and maintaining relationships with developers, landowners, utilities, and other key stakeholders
  • Monitoring market trends, policy developments, and competitive activity to inform business development strategy
  • Supporting representation of the company at industry events and meetings
Investment & Financial Analysis
  • Assisting in financial modeling, project valuation, and risk analysis for development and acquisition opportunities
  • Supporting the preparation of business cases, investment memos, and presentations for internal stakeholders
  • Collaborating with finance and legal teams to assess project feasibility and commercial structures
Contract & Development Support
  • Supporting the negotiation of agreements such as PPAs, joint ventures, land agreements, and development arrangements
  • Assisting with permitting, regulatory, and interconnection processes
Strategic Planning
  • Contributing to business plans, development strategies, and budget planning
  • Providing insights and analysis to support long‑term growth objectives
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline (MBA or graduate degree considered an asset)
  • 3–6 years of relevant experience in business development, project development, project management, or energy/infrastructure sectors
  • Experience in renewable energy (wind, solar, energy storage) or strong exposure to energy markets and project development processes
  • Working knowledge of U.S. power markets, including ISO/RTO structures (e.g., ERCOT, PJM, MISO), and general market dynamics
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem‑solving skills, with experience supporting financial modeling, project valuation, or business case development
  • Ability to coordinate and contribute effectively within cross‑functional teams in a dynamic, fast‑paced environment
  • Solid communication skills (written and verbal), including the ability to prepare presentations and clearly convey complex concepts
  • Foundational understanding of commercial agreements and contracts (e.g., PPAs, land agreements, joint ventures) and exposure to negotiation processes
  • Strong organizational and project coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Self‑motivated, collaborative team player with a proactive mindset and a demonstrated interest in renewable energy and the evolving energy landscape
Working Conditions
  • Two roles available: one in Washington, DC and one in Phoenix, AZ
  • Up to 20–30% travel
Compensation and Benefits
  • Salary Range (Washington, DC only): 130,000 – 165,000 annual salary (specific salary based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity)
