Capital Power Corporation is seeking a Business Development Specialist, US Renewables for the United States. The position is permanent and full‑time, available in Washington, DC and Phoenix, AZ. The role reports to the Sr Specialist, Business Development, US Renewables.
Responsibilities
- Support identification and evaluation of development and acquisition opportunities for renewable and energy storage projects.
- Assist with project development activities, coordinating cross‑functional teams (engineering, legal, finance, regulatory).
- Contribute to due diligence efforts for potential investments and acquisitions.
- Build and maintain relationships with developers, landowners, utilities, and other key stakeholders.
- Monitor market trends, policy developments, and competitive activity to inform business development strategy.
- Represent the company at industry events and meetings.
- Assist in financial modeling, project valuation, and risk analysis for development and acquisition opportunities.
- Prepare business cases, investment memos, and presentations for internal stakeholders.
- Collaborate with finance and legal teams to assess project feasibility and commercial structures.
- Negotiate agreements such as PPAs, joint ventures, land agreements, and development arrangements.
- Support permitting, regulatory, and interconnection processes.
- Contribute to business plans, development strategies, and budget planning.
- Provide insights and analysis to support long‑term growth objectives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Finance, Economics, or related discipline (MBA or graduate degree considered an asset).
- 3–6 years of relevant experience in business development, project development, project management, or energy/infrastructure sectors.
- Experience in renewable energy (wind, solar, energy storage) or strong exposure to energy markets and project development processes.
- Working knowledge of U.S. power markets, including ISO/RTO structures (e.g., ERCOT, PJM, MISO).
- Demonstrated analytical and problem‑solving skills, with experience supporting financial modeling or business case development.
- Ability to coordinate and contribute effectively within cross‑functional teams in a dynamic, fast‑paced environment.
- Solid communication skills (written and verbal), including the ability to prepare presentations and convey complex concepts.
- Foundational understanding of commercial agreements and contracts (PPAs, land agreements, joint ventures) and exposure to negotiation processes.
- Strong organizational and project coordination skills, with ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Self‑motivated, collaborative team player with proactive mindset and interest in renewable energy.
Working Conditions
- Roles available in Washington, DC and Phoenix, AZ.
- Up to 20–30% travel required.
- Salary (Washington, DC): 130,000–165,000annual.
