Job summary

A leading logistics provider is seeking a motivated individual for their business development team in Chicago, IL. The ideal candidate will have experience in B2B sales and a strong understanding of logistics and transportation. Your responsibilities include driving sales through establishing customer relationships, managing the sales cycle, and working collaboratively to meet sales targets. Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in logistics, transportation, or supply chain.
  • Demonstrated history of sales achievements.
  • Self-motivated with a strong competitive approach.
  • Able to shift from operations, account management or customer service to sales.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (including PowerPoint), internet, web-based and job-specific software.
  • Ability to generate complex charts, graphs, spreadsheets, and presentations.
  • Self-motivated; able to work independently with little supervision; sense of urgency and follow-up.
  • Strongly developed persuasive skills, proven negotiation skills; problem-solving; quick response to sales issues.
  • Positive, competitive sales approach and ability to work effectively in a team; Entrepreneur minded.

Responsibilities

  • Establish relationships with new customers and secure contracts.
  • Drive the entire sales cycle from initial engagement to closed sales.
  • Build and maintain a healthy sales pipeline.
  • Prospect for potential customers using direct methods (calling, in-person) and indirect methods (networking).
  • Provide forecasts on best case and sales volumes over relevant time periods.
  • Give sales presentations, submit opportunities, and submit activity and results reports to leadership.
  • Develop and maintain functional knowledge of products, services and operations.
  • Interact with station and operations managers and foster cooperative relationships to meet customer needs.
  • Schedule and conduct a pre-determined number of face-to-face sales visits.
  • Input sales call information into CRM and provide sales reports as directed.
  • Maintain a pre-determined number of target accounts and progress toward closing.
  • Meet or exceed sales quota.
  • Work cooperatively with other sales and operational staff to support a team-selling environment.

WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO?

Responsibilities
  • Establish relationships with new customers and secure contracts with new customers.
  • Drive the entire sales cycle from initial customer engagement to closed sales.
  • Build and maintain a healthy sales pipeline to meet or exceed sales targets.
  • Prospect for potential customers using various direct methods such as calling and face to face meetings, and indirect methods such as networking.
  • Provide forecasts on best case and sales volumes over relevant time periods.
  • Give sales presentations, submit opportunities, and submit activity and results reports to leadership.
  • Develop and maintain functional knowledge of the products, services and operations offered by the company.
  • Interact regularly with station and operations managers and develop close and cooperative working relationships with operational staff to ensure the customer’s needs are met.
  • Schedule and conduct a pre-determined number of face-to-face sales visits as directed by the sales or station management.
  • Input sales call information into the sales data system or other designated sales call software provided by the company and/or provides sales reports as directed by sales or station management.
  • Maintain a pre-determined number of target accounts and demonstrate active attention to those accounts and progress toward closing.
  • Meet or exceed sales threshold/quota as defined by the company.
  • Work cooperatively with other sales and operational staff to support a team-selling environment.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

Qualifications
  • Education and Experience: Logistics, transportation, supply chain knowledge +5 years; Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Will accept 10+ years' experience in lieu of a bachelor's degree in sales in transportation.
  • Hunter mentality; Business to Business sales experience with demonstrated history of sales achievements in a base plus commission environment.
  • Experience closing sales at the executive level.
  • Will consider people interested in shifting from: operations, account management or customer service in logistics, transportation, supply chain to sales.
  • Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (including PowerPoint), internet, web-based and job specific software applications.
  • Ability to generate complex, error-free charts, graphs, spreadsheets, and presentations.
  • Characteristics: Self-motivated; able to achieve results by working independently with little or no supervision; sense of urgency and follow-up.
  • Strongly developed persuasive skills, proven negotiation skills; strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think and respond quickly to sales and service issues.
  • Positive, competitive, confident sales approach and ability to work effectively in a team environment to achieve results; Entrepreneur minded.
