General Summary:

The Business Development Manager (BDM) – Instruments position is an entrepreneurial type role in which the BDM is responsible for executing the instruments business strategy for a target geography. The BDM will be responsible for developing new customers, growing the instruments business in alignment with BTG’s Tissue, Pulp, and Paper/Packaging market vertical teams, and identifying solution opportunities that leverage BTG/Voith’s full portfolio of products and services. The BDM will need to develop and enhance customer relationships across the range of customer operations including process engineers/technical, operations, maintenance/instrumentation, and mill leadership. The BDM should be able to function in both team and individual selling situations and work across inter-company groups to gain consensus and support for new business opportunities. Ideal locations for this position are: Wisconsin, Michigan or Indiana.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Instrument Sales Manager, Market Vertical Teams, Solutions, and Applications/Technical personnel to develop and implement the strategic plan for the territory that dovetails into long range sales and marketing strategies for the business. This work will include establishing appropriate expectations and performance metrics for the territory.
  • Coordinate with the Vertical Solution Sales Managers and Digital Leadership in the sales territory to deploy holistic solutions employing advanced data analytics, process modeling, advanced controls, and process instrumentation.
  • Participate in company technical training programs.
  • Participate in company meetings to discuss, fine-tune, and help create strategic plans.
  • Effectively support accounts and customer relationships, leveraging company resources to accomplish stated goals.
  • Assist in developing on-going forecasts using Salesforce.com as the vehicle for opportunity development and tracking
  • Develop and enhance relationships with key customer personnel.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current and future industry trends.
  • Participate in industry trade association activities.
  • Effectively communicate and report internally to ensure proper technical service and efforts are in sync with sales leadership.
  • Responsible for own personal safety, the safety of the team and those around you.
  • Work in accordance with and enforce compliance with all BTG policies (ex: Safety, Code of Conduct, Commercial Policy, Security Policy and Export Compliance) to maintain BTG reputation and image.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience with pulp and paper process to craft customer soluitons that include instrumentation to solve customer issues. The ability to demonstrate knowledge and credibility at the customer level is essential.
  • Must be a “people person” – one who enjoys engaging the customer, who enjoys traveling and is excellent in communication and follow-up. This is an individual contributing role within a team context.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with a high degree of autonomy; prioritize, organize and work independently.
  • Flexible and able to travel 75% of the time.
  • Excellent computer skills, strong knowledge of MS Office.

Required Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree, ideally a technical degree (ME, ChemE, Pulp and Paper Science, etc.) or equivalent experience.
