Job description

Big Bowl of Ideas is seeking a self-motivated, organized, and resourceful Business Development Manager.

If you like doing good for the world and generating resources to do so, we’re looking for individuals with a knack for generating business and securing grants from government, philanthropic, and corporate sectors that support our mission to create culturally competent and design-forward solutions for social change.

We generate funding from multiple sectors: business, government, and philanthropy. You should be comfortable engaging with diverse stakeholders, from the Chief of Social Impact at a B corp to a Program Officer at a family foundation or a Director at a County Arts Council.

As a Business Development Manager, your role will involve identifying new opportunities to generate revenue and support our growth.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Building the development arm of our organization by enhancing our funder research and proposal capabilities for large-scale projects.
  • Leading B2B efforts to market to and secure leads with government institutions and socially responsible corporations.
  • Assisting current and prospective nonprofit clients in finding funding solutions for creative communication projects.
  • Developing materials such as proposals, reports, and presentations for various funding opportunities and client needs.
  • Collaborating with the design team to create online and print collateral for potential donors and partners.
  • Researching potential funders and presenting opportunity summaries to management, helping to prioritize prospects.
  • Coordinating with development teams of clients to craft proposals for innovative concepts.
  • Tracking grant deadlines to ensure timely submission of proposals and reports.

Qualifications include:

  • BA or MA in Business Administration/Management or 3+ years of experience leading development teams in nonprofit or B2B sales environments.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to adapt transparency and discretion as needed.
  • Experience in startup or small business environments, demonstrating flexibility and resilience under stress.
  • Strong proposal and business writing skills, capable of making compelling pitches to senior management.
  • Resourceful research skills to identify and access funding opportunities.
  • Familiarity with art, design, video, and event production sectors, with the ability to communicate about these fields effectively.
  • Dedication to social and economic justice and a passion for making a positive impact.

This position is initially approximately 10 hours per week, with potential to increase to 20-25 hours based on organizational needs.
