Job description

Big Bowl of Ideas is seeking a self-motivated, organized, and resourceful Business Development Manager.

If you like doing good for the world and generating resources to do so, we’re looking for people who excel at generating business and securing grants from government, philanthropic, and corporate sectors that support our mission to create culturally competent and design-forward solutions for social change.

We generate funding from multiple sectors: business, government, and philanthropy. You should be comfortable engaging with diverse stakeholders, from the Chief of Social Impact at a B corp to a Program Officer at a family foundation or a Director at a County Arts Council.

As a Business Development Manager, you’ll identify new opportunities to generate revenue and support the growth of our organization.

We are looking for someone who can:

  1. Build the development arm of our organization by enhancing our funder research and proposal generation for large-scale projects.
  2. Lead B2B efforts to market to and secure leads from government institutions and socially responsible corporations.
  3. Assist current and prospective nonprofit clients in finding funding solutions for creative communications projects.
  4. This position is likely 10 hours/week, with potential to increase to 20-25 hours/week based on needs.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Driving development efforts and growing our client base.
  • Researching grant and B2B opportunities in social justice, economic justice, arts, media, and movement building projects.
  • Leading proposal planning, preparation, and reporting for various funding opportunities.
  • Collaborating with the design team to develop compelling online and print communication materials for donors and partners.
  • Developing additional materials and supporting other grant projects as needed.
  • Researching potential funders and presenting summaries to management to help prioritize prospects.
  • Coordinating with client development teams to craft proposals for Big Bowl of Ideas concepts.
  • Tracking grant deadlines to ensure timely submissions.

Qualifications:

  • BA or MA in Business Administration/Management or 3+ years of experience leading development teams in nonprofit or B2B sales.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to switch between transparency and discretion seamlessly.
  • Experience in startup or small business environments, demonstrating flexibility and resilience under stress.
  • Strong business or proposal writing skills, capable of pitching to senior management.
  • Resourceful research skills.
  • Familiarity with art, design, video, and event production, with the ability to communicate about these fields effectively.
  • Dedication to social and economic justice and improving the world.
