Job description

Business Development Manager
at RMS Roller-Grinder

Location:
Hybrid, based out of Harrisburg, South Dakota

Travel Time:
Visit our home base every 6–12 weeks/as needed

Compensation:
Competitive salary + performance-based incentive + benefits

Why This Role Exists

At RMS Roller-Grinder, we believe work should be more than a job—it should be fun, meaningful, and part of a supportive community. We’re a family-oriented team that values innovation, collaboration, and balance. Your ideas matter, your voice is heard, and work-life balance is actually a thing.

We build industrial roller mills for customers who need precise, repeatable particle size reduction— serving the feed, soy processing, flour, mineral processing, and spice industries, plus plenty of custom applications. We’ve got a strong reputation in our core markets and big plans to grow, and business development is at the heart of getting us there.

The Opportunity

We’re looking for a builder—not a maintainer. Our business development team is young, and we’ve already found what works: consistent, strategic cold calling that opens doors in new markets. What we need now is a Business Development Manager who can take those proven wins, refine them, and build the systems and standards to scale them. You’ll turn what’s working today into a documented, repeatable engine; coach and grow our team of Business Development Representatives; and help expand RMS into new industries and territories.

If you love taking something that’s working and making it bigger and better, developing people, and get fired up watching a team hit a number they didn’t think they could—this one’s for you.

This is a build role. Business development at RMS is about a year old. We know what drives results—now many of those wins live as tribal knowledge and ad hoc process. Your job is to refine them, document them, and build the systems and standards that let us repeat and scale them. If you’d rather maintain a machine someone else built, this isn’t the seat. If you want to take what’s working and build it into something bigger, keep reading.

What You’ll Do:
  • Refine and document the playbook—take our proven outbound approach and turn it into repeatable systems: cadences, lead qualification standards, sales handoff, and rep onboarding. Move it out of people’s heads and onto paper.
  • Test, measure, and find what converts. Run A/B tests on different outreach approaches—scripts, messaging, timing, target segments—and compare the results to spot the trends that turn cold outreach into Sales Qualified Leads. Double down on what works and cut what doesn’t.
  • Lead, coach, and develop our team of Business Development Representatives—call reviews, 1:1s, and hands‑on help right there in the trenches with them.
  • Scale our cold‑calling engine. It’s our strongest path to new business today—your job is to help the team do more of it, better, by removing friction, building the skills, and setting a standard the team can hit and be proud of.
  • Grow our marketing partnership. Our (outsourced) agency has done great work generating leads in our core market—build on that success and extend it into new industries where RMS doesn’t yet have a strong name.
  • Sharpen our tradeshow strategy—decide which shows are worth our time and money, run them end to end, and make sure every event drives real leads.
  • Build the reporting. Set up HubSpot to track what’s working, keep the pipeline full and predictable, and forecast what’s coming.
  • Hire and grow the team—we’ve got 3 BDRs today and a 4th on the way, with more to come.
What We’re Looking For:
  • A builder. You’ve taken a working sales or BD motion and scaled it—refining what’s effective and putting the cadences, standards, and systems in place to repeat it.
  • A leader people want to follow—someone who develops talent, sets a high bar, and keeps morale up on a team that hears “no” all day.
  • Data‑driven and experimental. You test different approaches, compare results, and let the numbers—not hunches—tell you what’s driving SQLs.
  • Comfortable turning the informal into the repeatable. You document what works and get a team to actually adopt it, with minimal supervision.
  • A track record of raising a team’s activity and output—and comfort being measured on real results.
  • Someone who genuinely believes in cold calling and outbound as the engine of new business, because that’s what works here.
  • Comfortable with the numbers—you can work backward from a growth goal to the dials, meetings, and qualified leads it takes to get there.
  • Willingness to travel to our home base every 6–12 weeks as needed, plus tradeshows and industry events.
Bonus Points If You Have:
  • Scaled a BDR/SDR team in capital equipment, agriculture, manufacturing, or processing industries.
  • Hands‑on experience setting up and running HubSpot and ZoomInfo.
  • Been a BDR or sales rep yourself—you’ve carried the bag and made the calls, so the team trusts you.
  • A knack for breaking into new markets through outbound prospecting and cold outreach.
What’s In It For You?
(Besides Working with an
Awesome Team)
  • Competitive salary + performance-based incentive (because your success should be rewarded!).
  • Health, Dental, and Vision insurance.
  • Short-Term and Long-Term Disability coverage.
  • Retirement plan with company contributions.
  • Flexible work schedule.
  • 3 weeks of PTO in your first year.
  • Career growth opportunities – We invest in our team and love seeing people thrive.
  • A workplace where ideas matter – Got a wild idea to help us grow? Let’s hear it!
  • A supportive, fun, and family‑oriented culture – We work hard, laugh a lot, and celebrate wins together.
  • Work from anywhere – Well, almost anywhere, as long as you have a connection (with a trip to home base every 6–12 weeks as needed).
