Fort Worth, Texas | Relocation Assistance Available

Competitive Base Salary + Bonus + Long-Term Incentives (LTI) + Comprehensive Benefits

J MAR’s upstream oil & gas client is seeking a commercially minded Business Development Engineer to identify, originate, and advance upstream investment opportunities across multiple U.S. basins.

This is an opportunity for an experienced reservoir engineer to leverage their technical background in a broader, commercially focused business development role. Working closely with the Vice President of Corporate Development, this individual will build industry relationships, uncover unsolicited and off-market opportunities, and conduct preliminary technical and economic evaluations to determine their strategic fit.

The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with commercial instincts, intellectual curiosity, and an entrepreneurial approach to identifying new opportunities.

After an attractive opportunity has been identified and initially screened, the Business Development Engineer will help advance discussions with potential sellers and collaborate with the internal A&D team on more detailed technical and economic evaluations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Proactively identify and originate unsolicited acquisition, joint venture, trade, and other strategic opportunities.
  • Build and maintain relationships with operators, asset owners, and other industry professionals to uncover off-market opportunities.
  • Monitor basin activity, competitor development plans, industry trends, and transactions to identify potential acquisition targets.
  • Conduct high-level technical and economic evaluations of prospective assets, assessing production performance, development potential, operating costs, and key value drivers.
  • Identify potential risks and opportunities to determine whether an asset aligns with the company's investment strategy.
  • Work closely with the Vice President of Corporate Development to engage potential sellers and advance qualified opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the internal A&D team on detailed technical, economic, and commercial evaluations.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering.
  • Experience with an upstream operating company in reservoir engineering, development engineering, asset planning, or a comparable technical role.
  • Strong understanding of upstream operations, development economics, and asset valuation.
  • Delaware Basin and/or multi-basin experience.
  • Ability to independently perform preliminary technical and economic evaluations of upstream assets.
  • Experience in upstream A&D, business development, or technical asset evaluation, preferred.
  • Proficiency with ARIES, PHDWin, ComboCurve, or similar software.
  • Strong commercial instincts, initiative, and an interest in originating new investment opportunities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with an interest in developing external industry relationships.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and comfortable working independently.
  • Established industry relationships or experience developing new business opportunities, a plus.
Why Consider This Opportunity?

This role is ideal for a petroleum engineer who enjoys the commercial side of the business and wants to take a more active role in originating deals. You'll have the opportunity to build industry relationships, identify off-market opportunities, and help shape the company's acquisition pipeline while leveraging your technical engineering background.
