Job summary

Huntington National Bank in Houston is seeking a Business Banking Underwriter III to join our lending team. The role underwrites Business Banking loans to assess credit worthiness and alignment with banking policy, while supporting a healthy loan portfolio and risk management.

The candidate will review financial data, manage a personal pipeline, and exercise authority on credit decisions up to specified limits. Strong communication and collaborative skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• 5+ years’ experience with business or commercial underwriting.
• Experience in centralized lending environment.
• Ability to underwrite up to $2.5MM and above.
• Strong communication and professionalism.

Responsibilities

The Business Banking Underwriter III is responsible for underwriting Business Banking loans to determine credit worthiness and compliance with Bank lending policy.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Supports Business Banking production by maintaining an individual pipeline of work.
• Reviews all financial and credit application information to make sound credit decisions. Loans would typically include those with more complex credit structures and customer exposure up to $4MM.
• Utilizes single approval authority up to $3MM.
• Appropriately assess risk profile of borrower.
• Assist with training and mentoring new hires as well as providing support for the UWI & UW II job families as needed.
• Tasks as needed to support the line of business and job family.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree
• 5+years’ experience with business or commercial underwriting in a centralized lending environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business related field
• Proven track record to support high levels of loan volume
• Ability to underwrite credit exposures in excess of $2.5MM
• Previous authority to underwrite and decision credits without additional signers
• Demonstrates confidence, assertiveness, professionalism, and ability to interact with all levels within the organization in a professional manner
• Proficient use of Microsoft Office and other internet resources
• Ability to work independently on multiple tasks without compromising quality
• Excellence in customer service, highly motivated, focused and goal oriented
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including grammar and demeanor
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail, planning and follow-up

Compensation Range

$70,000 - $140,000 Annual Salary

The compensation range represents the anticipated low and high end of the base compensation range for this position. Actual compensation will vary based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, and education. Colleagues in this position are also eligible to participate in an applicable incentive compensation plan. In addition, Huntington provides a variety of benefits to colleagues, including health insurance coverage, wellness program, life and disability insurance, retirement savings plan, paid leave programs, paid holidays and paid time off (PTO).
