Job summary

The Colorado Department of Revenue's Lottery BAMO unit seeks a detail‑oriented Analyst I to validate business processes, tests, and system enhancements. You will translate user needs into test cases, document failures, and collaborate with Game Vendors, OIT, and stakeholders to ensure high system stability.

Preferred candidates will have UAT and QA testing experience, strong written communication, and proficiency with Google Suite and Excel.

Qualifications

  • Four (4) years of experience in business operations, accounting, computer science, project coordination, marketing, customer service, and/or lottery.
  • Associate's degree from an accredited institution in Business, Accounting, Computer Science, Project Management, and/or Marketing or as determined by the Department AND 2 years of experience in business operations, accounting, computer science, project coordination, marketing, customer service, and/or lottery.
  • Additional appropriate education in Business, Accounting, Computer Science, Project Management, and/or Marketing or as determined by the Department will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Description Of Job

The Lottery's mission is to maximize the proceeds from Lottery game sales to support the Lottery's beneficiaries for the good of all Coloradans. The Business Analyst Management Office (BAMO) work unit is responsible for understanding and implementing business specific goals related to Lottery sections' business processes, claims, games, tickets, rules, system enhancements, technology systems, system version upgrades and implementation for the Colorado Lottery division.

This work unit is responsible for understanding and executing business-specific testing across all operational areas of the Colorado Lottery division. Key responsibilities include evaluating and validating business processes, claims, games, tickets, operational rules, technology systems, system enhancements, and version upgrades. To ensure system integrity and stability, the unit collaborates closely with key partners, including Game Vendors, the Office of Information Technology (OIT), internal and external stakeholders, and customers. By translating evolving business needs into technical and end-user requirements, the team balances technical acumen with business operations to deliver high quality of service, strong system stability, and maximum business value.

What You'll Do
  • Quality Assurance (QA) Testing
    • Learns to develop and follow test cases for UAT of internal and external software programs, determine pass/fail outcomes, and report results to senior analysts.
    • Collaborates with business analysts to document failures and identify the appropriate points of communication.
    • Identifies system defects by comparing system behavior against specifications and information provided by end users.
    • Determines appropriate testing approaches for system enhancement changes, with review and approval from peers.
  • Business Process Review
    • Participates in SRS reviews to identify necessary updates to CGS/PNP and IC​S, and assists with preparing an maintaining test cases associated with software batch installations, documents and escalates identified defects for review by senior staff.
    • Proactively plans and coordinates future testing needs, including the creation and management of test JIRA tickets to support a variety of scheduling scenarios.
    • Develops a working knowledge of lottery operations and effectively collaborates with internal units to ensure alignment, communication, and support for ongoing business processes.
In accordance with operation requirements, this position requires in office work. Due to the nature of the role, remote work is not permitted and all duties must be performed onsite. This position reports to the Pueblo Office.
