Job description

The Business Analyst is responsible for the fiscal reporting health and fiscal responsibility of assigned department(s). This includes cost controls, in-depth knowledge of department level spending, department budgets, and any applicable department revenue streams and operational requirements. This position researches and compiles data, prepares reports and presentations, establishes Key Performance Indicators (KPI), and works closely with department directors to drive and create operational efficiency and effectiveness. The Business Analyst may assist in strategic planning initiatives, new departmental initiatives, and strategic program analysis. Associated departments include Financial Services, Human Resources, Information Technology, Parks and Recreation , Community Enrichment, Development Services, Public Works, Economic Development, Fire, and Police.

  • Analyzes, prepares, and monitors departmental capital and operating budgets.
  • Ensure proper allocation of collected funds and reconcile financial reports.
  • Gather, analyze, and interpret financial and operational data to support organizational initiatives.
  • Develop reports, queries, and data analysis across multiple systems.
  • Establishes relevant KPIs and creates and distributes executive level reporting packages designed to provide proactive information to City leadership.
  • Ensures all external reporting needs, deadlines, and associated compliance requirements are being met, including but not limited to grants, legal contracts, etc.
  • Creates process and communication optimization for the department to align with project goals.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance efficiency, transparency, and consistency across centralized functions.
  • Researches and reviews existing and new contracts.
  • Prepares various reports summarizing project, study, or program data; analyzes related data and makes recommendations based on findings.
  • Researches and compiles data for various projects.
  • Cross-trains with other analysts to create professional development and support structure for fellow analysts.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, business administration, criminal justice, finance, or a related field.
  • Three (3) years of work experience in operational analysis, project management, finance, accounting, auditing.

Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience using ERP system, Munis preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in data visualization and reporting tools
