Job summary

Bay Mills Community College (BMCC) is seeking an internal candidate for a part‑time Academic Advisor position. The role supports student success through advising, course registration assistance, degree planning, and recruitment activities across online and on‑campus settings.

The appointment runs for one academic year from August 15, 2026 to August 14, 2027. The incumbent will assist with course selection, welcome letters, and program planning, while coordinating with BMCC staff and committees.

Qualifications

  • Strong verbal and written communication.
  • Experience supervising staff.
  • Ability to work with diverse backgrounds, including Native Americans.
  • Experience teaching at the college level (community college preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Assist students with course selection online and on-campus.
  • Create and distribute welcome letters to new students.
  • Provide advising for course registration and degree planning.
  • Direct questions to appropriate BMCC staff.
  • Review and authorize graduation declarations and other approvals.
  • Attend Advisory Committee and related meetings.
  • Support recruitment activities for the department.
  • Document services and contacts each semester for the Department of Academic Affairs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

THIS POSITION IS LIMITED TO INTERNAL CANDIDATES

Job Summary:

The Business Administration Academic Advisor is responsible for supporting student success through academic advising, course registration assistance, degree planning, student outreach, and recruitment activities. The position is contracted for one academic year beginning August 15, 2026 and ending August 14, 2027. The position is considered part-time and requires work to be completed both online and on-campus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist students with course selection, both online and on-campus.
  • Create and distribute welcome (introduction) letters to new students.
  • Provide assistance with general and specific student questions pertaining to course work and degree requirements.
  • Provide academic advising to students regarding course registration and program planning.
  • Forward questions and concerns to Bay Mills Community College staff as appropriate.
  • Review and authorize graduation declarations. Provide other advisor approvals and signatures as needed.
  • Attend Advisory Committee meetings, as well as other meetings as necessary.
  • Perform normal recruiting duties as necessary for the department.
  • Provide documentation of services and contacts made during each semester (fall, spring, summer) to the Department of Academic Affairs.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge or experience in alternative teaching strategies such as group projects, hands‑on learning, practical applications, computer assisted instruction, distance learning or team‑teaching.
  • Knowledge or experience in academic advising.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proven ability to supervise and mentor staff.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others, college and departmental committee experience preferred.
  • Knowledge or experience working with people of diverse backgrounds, abilities, and needs.
  • Knowledge or experience in working with Native Americans, in an educational setting preferred.
Education and Experience:
  • Documented Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Office Administration, or related field. Master’s Degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of field experience preferred.
  • Experience teaching courses at the college level, particularly in a community college setting, is preferred.
  • Experience working or teaching in Tribal communities is beneficial.
