AC Transit is actively seeking courteous, customer service-oriented, and dependable individuals to safely operate our buses and provide the highest quality of service to our customers and community. Previous Bus Operator Experience is NOT REQUIRED. AC Transit offers a full-time, comprehensive paid training program to selected candidates who demonstrate the aptitude, interpersonal skills, and desire for a career as an AC Transit Bus Operator.
Under the supervision of Transportation Supervisors, Division Superintendent, and/or Division Assistant Superintendent, operates a variety of District vehicles to transport passengers safely along fixed routes, performs customer service activities, inspects transit vehicles, operates fareboxes, completes reports, reports incidents, and assists passengers requiring special assistance.
Education: High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
Experience: At least 3 years of motor vehicle operation and 1 year of customer service; must be at least 21 years old.
Desirable Qualifications: Excellent communication skills, professional interaction, dependability, punctuality, ability to work independently, and adherence to safety and company policies.
Applicants must meet safe driving standards, including age, driving record, and absence of violations or violations in specified periods.
Applicants must pass a DOT physical, including drug and alcohol screening. A regular Class C license is required; commercial licenses are not necessary. Criminal background checks are conducted; a conviction does not necessarily bar employment.
This is a union position represented by ATU. The selection process includes application review, examinations, and eligibility ranking. AC Transit requires candidates to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, with limited exemptions.
