Job description

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the direct supervision of the Transit Supervisor, this position involves the full operation of buses to provide safe, efficient transportation to the public with a focus on strong customer service. Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.

PRINCIPAL JOB DUTIES - BUS OPERATOR:

  1. Pick up, transport, and drop off passengers on a prescribed deviated fixed route, adhering to schedules and all applicable laws and standards.
  2. Perform thorough federally mandated pre-trip and post-trip bus inspections to ensure vehicle safety and proper maintenance.
  3. Represent Clear Creek County professionally, exercising sound judgment, working safely, respecting co-workers, and ensuring quality service to internal and external customers.
  4. Report unusual occurrences and follow all safety, traffic, emergency, and operational procedures.
  5. Practice safe defensive driving, maintaining awareness of speed and external conditions.
  6. Assist disabled passengers, provide ADA services, and communicate safety instructions, maintaining guest relations and comfort.
  7. Provide schedule, route, and trip planning information to riders.
  8. Operate transit equipment proficiently, including communication and safety systems.
  9. Ensure all paperwork, such as accident reports and vehicle inspections, is complete and compliant.
  10. Maintain cleanliness of the vehicle interior and exterior.
  11. Attend required training sessions and cover dispatch phone if needed.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned with reliable attendance and performance.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Colorado driver’s license.
  • At least 3 years of driving experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of transit operations, safety practices, and traffic laws.
  • Ability to pass drug and alcohol tests and understand instructions and regulations.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work under stress, maintain professionalism, and adapt to changing environments.
  • Physical ability to perform the job, including long periods of sitting, reaching, and lifting up to 40 lbs.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be at least 21 years old with a clean driving record.
  • Complete defensive driving and other training as required.
  • Pass a DOT physical, background check, and drug tests.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Primarily fieldwork with moderate to high noise levels, involving long periods of sitting, communication, and exposure to various weather conditions. Physical demands include reaching, bending, lifting, and operating vehicle controls. Must have good vision and hearing for communication and safety.
