Job summary

Liberty Public Schools is seeking a Bus Monitor On-Call to support transportation services for students, including those with special needs, during loading, transport, and unloading.

You will help keep vehicles clean and safe, follow district rules, and communicate with teachers and parents as needed while managing student behavior and ensuring a secure environment. Immediate start is available.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • CPR/First Aid certificate/AED preferred, or willingness to obtain.
  • Must pass pre-employment background check; DOT physical exam, drug test, and criminal background clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Assists special education students and other passengers with safe loading and unloading from buses.
  • Secures students and equipment (restraints, wheel chair tie downs, seat belts).
  • Keeps bus environment clean and safe (sweeping, mopping, window washing, trash disposal).
  • Enforces rules/regulations and maintains student safety and wellbeing.
  • Communicates effectively with teachers and parents and manages behavioral issues affecting transport.
  • Monitors students with special needs until released to teacher, assistant, or parent.
  • Documents incidents and passenger misconduct as required.

The Bus Monitor provides support within the student transportation services area with specific responsibilities for assisting special education students during transport to and from school and/or special activities; and ensuring the safety and sanitation of assigned vehicles.

Job Duties
  • Assists special education students and other passengers by providing safe loading and unloading from buses during normal transport and emergency situations.
  • Secures students and/or their equipment (e.g. restraints, wheel chair tie downs, seat belts, etc.)
  • Assists bus driver to ensure a clean, safe environment for student passengers (e.g. sweeping, mopping, washing windows, disposing of trash, etc.)
  • Enforces rules/regulations and maintains student safety and well-being.
  • Interacts with teachers and parents by effectively communicating with students and dealing with behavioral issues that impact safe transportation.
  • Monitors students with special needs until released to teacher, instructional assistant, parent, etc.
  • Documents student activities, conveys information, and/or complies with established guidelines. (e.g. incident reports, passenger misconduct, etc.)
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Related job experiences desired (paraprofessional, CNA, Direct Support Professional, etc)
  • CPR/First Aid Certificate/AED preferred, or willingness to obtain
  • Must pass a pre-employment background check; DOT physical exam, drug test, and criminal justice fingerprint/background clearance.
Pay

$15.83 - $19.87 per hour (based on relevant work experience)
