Job summary

The Rapid is seeking a Transit Vehicle Technician (Bus Mechanic) on the 3rd shift to join our team in Grand Rapids, MI. You will inspect, maintain, and repair a range of vehicles—from light trucks to full-size transit buses—ensuring safety and reliability for passengers.

You’ll perform diagnostics, routine maintenance, and minor fabrication work while documenting work history in electronic repair orders. A valid MI CDL and basic computer skills are required; training is provided on first shift

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• 1+ year of vocational or technical schooling or equivalent work experience such as transit/diesel/heavy equipment technician.
• Ability to obtain Michigan CDL Class B with Passenger and Airbrake Endorsement.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, diagnose, repair, and replace brake systems, fuel and emission systems, steering and suspension systems, and passenger heating/cooling systems.
• Use hand tools and power tools; perform routine preventative maintenance: oil changes, lubrication, battery maintenance, CNGA inspections.
• Maintain and create records and work history within electronic repair orders.
