Job summary

Aerotek is seeking a skilled Bus Mechanic to join our team in Franklin Park, IL on a contract-to-hire basis. The role focuses on maintaining transit buses with emphasis on electrical systems, diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, and HVAC, performing diagnostics and hands-on repairs to keep buses safe and ready for service.

The ideal candidate has 2–5 years of bus/truck maintenance experience, strong tool use, and the ability to manage multiple job orders daily.

Qualifications

• 2–5 years of bus/truck maintenance experience.
• Hands-on use of hand and power tools for mechanical work.
• Ability to perform detailed visual vehicle inspections before and after repairs.
• Experience diagnosing electrical systems including multiplex systems.
• Strong troubleshooting in diesel maintenance, brakes, transmissions.
• Ability to manage multiple job orders daily.
• Documentation of work performed using maintenance software.
• Experience in fleet, truck, or bus maintenance environments.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical systems on transit buses, including multiplex systems.
• Perform minor engine repairs and service transmissions as needed.
• Carry out routine maintenance such as brake services and oil changes.
• Inspect, repair, and maintain bus air conditioning units.
• Perform interior and exterior body work on buses, including minor repairs.
• Use hand tools and power drills to perform mechanical tasks safely.
• Document all work performed and note any items not completed.
• Work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining quality and safety.
• Collaborate with team members and on-site transit facility personnel.
• Follow safety procedures and proper PPE during tasks.
• Perform maintenance in varying weather conditions, including outdoors.
