Job summary

WMATA in Maryland is seeking a Maintenance Trainee for the Bus Maintenance BMNT program, a two-year developmental track that combines classroom work and on-the-job training. You progress through four training levels, with mentorship from seasoned mechanics and supervisors as you prepare for a Mechanic, grade C role.

Upon graduation, expectations include achieving at least one ASE certification in the Transit Bus discipline, with supervision and structured OJT to support skill development across

Qualifications

• High School Diploma with two years of vocational training in electrical, mechanical or electronics.
• Alternative: one year related work experience with 1,000 hours at a grade level may qualify.
• Possession of a valid CDL with appropriate endorsements for passenger bus is required or acceptable alternatives.

Responsibilities

• Attends formal training classes related to bus maintenance and passes required exams.
• Gains familiarity with maintenance, inspection, repair, and calibration of WMATA buses and equipment.
• Under supervision, uses tools and test equipment to inspect, diagnose and repair bus malfunctions following safety rules.
• Completes documentation and reports related to operation, maintenance, and training.
