Job summary

Gloucester Public Schools in Gloucester, MA seeks a full-time Bus Driver to operate a school bus, transport school-aged children and authorized personnel safely on routes and activities. Responsibilities include pre/post-trip inspections, enforcing student safety, and performing related duties as directed by the Director of Transportation.

Starting immediately, applicant must have CDL, First Aid/CPR, and driving experience; willingness to work flexible hours and pass required drug/alcohol tests;

Qualifications

  • Must obtain valid CDL to operate a school bus as required by DOT.
  • Must maintain First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Three continuous years of driving experience.
  • Knowledge of Mass. General Laws, DOT, and DOE requirements as they pertain to school buses and pupil transportation.
  • Willingness to submit to drug and alcohol testing when required.
  • Ability to work flexible hours due to scheduling, breakdowns, accidents and weather.
  • Ability to learn local streets and road systems quickly and accurately.
  • Attend training sessions conducted by vendors.
  • Able to work independently and follow oral and written instructions.

Job Description

BRIEF DESCRIPTION: Position is responsible for operating a school bus and transporting school aged children and other authorized personnel safely and efficiently over specified routes to and from schools and various activities. Position conducts pre and post-trip inspections; observes safety regulations and policies; enforces student discipline on the bus; and performs related work. Ability to perform any other related duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation or other appropriate Administrator.

Job Requirements
  • Previous school bus driving experience, preferred;
  • Must obtain valid commercial driver’s license to operate a school bus as required by the State Department of Transportation (DOT); (District will cover cost of CDL Training).
  • Must have three (3) continuous years of driving experience;
  • Must maintain First Aid and CPR certification;
  • A thorough knowledge of Mass. General Laws, DOT, and Department of Education requirements as they pertain to school buses and pupil transportation;
  • Must submit to drug and alcohol testing when required;
  • Able to work flexible hours due to bus scheduling, breakdowns, accidents, and extreme weather conditions;
  • Must possess knowledge of, or the ability to accurately and quickly learn local streets and road systems;
  • Ability to attend training sessions conducted by the various vendors;
  • Must be capable of working independently and possess the ability to understand and follow-through with oral and written instructions.
  • Salary: $28.99/ Hour
  • Citizenship, residency or work visa required
