Bus Driver Trainee
Job Description
QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent. Must have a valid Arizona State Drivers License. This position trains candidates to transport students on scheduled routes and special excursions, ensuring the vehicle is safe and the students are protected during transport, loading, and unloading.

Transportation Director
JOB GOAL:
After training, the trainee must obtain a CDL, Arizona Class B or above with ‘P’ and ‘S’ endorsements, or equivalent AZ CDL Class B or above. The goal is to obtain AZ Bus Driver's Certification within the allotted time (ideally 60‑90 days from hire). The trainee will then drive district buses, transporting students over specified routes to local or distant points according to time schedules.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assess incidents, complaints, accidents, and potential emergency situations to recommend or enact solutions.
- Communicate effectively with parents, students, teachers, administrators, other drivers, dispatchers, etc., to convey or receive information.
- Drive district buses/vehicles safely and timely to transport regular and special education students on scheduled routes and field trips.
- Maintain assigned vehicles, including interior and exterior cleanliness and necessary inspections, to ensure safety, appearance, and sanitation.
- Monitor students, parents, and teachers during transit to maintain order and ensure passenger safety.
- Perform first aid as needed to meet immediate health care needs of passengers.
- Conduct pre‑trip inspections (fluid levels, tire pressure, lights, exterior conditions, etc.) to meet state requirements and ensure safe operation.
- Use non‑violent crisis intervention techniques and restraints to de‑escalate crisis situations and protect all involved.
- Prepare documentation such as daily mileage and condition reports, incident/accident reports, inspections, disciplinary and positive behavior reports, and other records.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Ten‑month employment with pay and benefits per board policy.
- FLSA: Non‑Exempt.

SALARY: $17.14 Per Hour
