OBJECTIVE/PURPOSE

Under the direction of the Operations Coordinator, the Floater Teacher Assistant helps to create and maintain an atmosphere in the classroom in which children feel welcome, valued, comfortable and secure. The Floater Teacher Assistant will help the program day‑to‑day operations run smoothly by providing classroom teachers with breaks, coverage for meetings, assist with beginning and end of the day cleaning, provide childcare for late afternoon and evening family meetings and events, substituting in the classroom, and help with preparation for the next day.

Major Responsibilities
  • Provide teachers with breaks and cover for meetings.
  • Ride the bus when needed.
  • Replenish food for the classrooms at mealtimes.
  • Assist with beginning and end of the day cleaning.
  • Substitute in the classroom when needed.
  • Supervise children’s play activities; help children participate in individual and group activities.
  • Observe and report child’s behavior to Teacher.
  • Clean and maintain classroom and facility as directed.
  • Perform daily duties including playground health and safety checklists, kitchen duties, tidying and organizing common areas, and equipment care.
  • Document meeting Office of Head Start and Child Care Licensing Regulations for paperwork standards; keep Bright Futures Quality Credential Account up to date; assist teachers with case notes and child observations in electronic records.
  • Assist children on bus to seat and secure required 3‑point harness; monitor children on bus; engage them with books, songs, or creative activities; tidy bus after routes; assist driver with pre/post‑checks; assist in emergency evacuation drills.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent. Must hold a valid Child Development Associate Certification (CDA) or Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education (AA) or be enrolled in a program leading to a CDA or AA within 2 years of employment start date.
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Ability to obtain a valid CDL within 6 months from date of hire to be eligible for the sign‑on bonus.
