Job summary

Mason Public Schools in Michigan is seeking a Bus Driver Substitute to support the Transportation Department. You will operate school buses with safety as the top priority, conduct pre-trip inspections, and ensure student supervision during routes.

The role requires a clean driving record, ability to pass required background checks and drug testing, and a willingness to complete the commercial driving test after training. This is an on-site, as-needed position beginning 2026-2027 school year.

Qualifications

• Must maintain a good driving record.
• Must be able to pass physical, drug tests & criminal history check.
• Must be able to pass a commercial driving test after training.
• Enjoy working with children and supervising students on the bus.

Responsibilities

• Shall exhibit safe driving habits with passenger safety as the primary concern.
• Shall conduct routine safety inspection of the bus before each run.
• Shall check fluid and oil levels and fuel as necessary.
• Shall report all mechanical problems to the mechanic.
• Shall maintain a clean and safe environment within the bus.
• Shall endeavor to maintain a dependable route schedule.
• Shall report accidents to the Transportation Supervisor and cooperate with investigations.
• Shall be responsible for student discipline on the bus and cooperate with administrators.
• Shall promote positive public relations with students, parents and school personnel.
• Shall maintain confidentiality for school-related information.
• Shall perform other duties as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor.

• Shall perform other duties as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

• This position requires long periods of sitting.
• The position requires occasional lifting.
• Work takes place both indoors and outdoors, with travel to other schools or field trip locations.

• Monday through Friday when school is in session on an as-needed basis.
