Job summary

Job Description

This posting will remain active for the 2025-2026 School year, bus driver recruitment is ongoing.

Qualifications

Commercial Driver's License with air brake classification and Passenger & School Bus Endorsements: CDL - B, P & S.
Minimum qualification required: CLP - Commercial Learner's Permit.
Paid training provided with CLP depending on experience and the following qualifications:
- Proof of excellent driving record.
- High School graduate or equivalent.
- Must meet and maintain health requirements of DOT regulations.
- Must meet and maintain Federal DOT drug/alcohol testing requirements.
- Must meet and maintain District/Michigan Department of Education competency levels of driving skills.
Previous work experience with children of all ages including children with disabilities and the ability to be sensitive to their needs preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assist students with entering or exiting the bus in a safe manner.
Seat students safely using needed seat belts, car seats or wheelchair restraints, etc.
Serve as a role model for students in demonstrating a positive attitude, good moral character, and integrity.
Monitor passengers at all times to ensure safety regulations and student conduct rules are followed.
Exercise student management through communication and discipline per Board policy.
Document and report any violations or conduct concerns to appropriate authority.
Physically assist passengers in evacuation of the vehicle in case of emergency.
Ensure that children take their belongings with them when leaving the bus.
Assist Driver in keeping the interior of the assigned vehicle clean and presentable.
Complete all required paperwork and submit to the appropriate employee/department in a timely manner.
Display the highest ethical and professional behavior in working with fellow employees, supervisors, parents, and school personnel; always promoting company goodwill.
Present a neat and professional appearance at all times.
Report to duty on time and perform all responsibilities in a safe manner.
Other duties as assigned.
Regular and reliable in person attendance required.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts; ability to compute percentages and to interpret graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Other Skills and Abilities

Personal computer skills necessary. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the school community. Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

The employee is directly responsible for safety, well‑being, or work output of other people. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
