Job summary

The Children’s Center in Suffolk, VA is seeking bus drivers to safely transport children to and from our Head Start programs. You will join a transportation team within the education department and help maintain a positive, nurturing ride.

Applicants should have a CDL with P and S endorsements, a high school diploma or GED, 1–3 years of driving experience, and CPR/First Aid training. We offer comprehensive benefits and time off.

Responsibilities

• Safely transport children to and from The Children’s Center Head Start/Early Head Start programs.
• Follow Virginia licensing and Head Start regulations to ensure child safety.

• Maintain a safe, positive, and nurturing bus environment for daily trips.

The Children's Center, a non-profit agency, is dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of young children, one family at a time. Our mission is to nurture and educate children and their families. We provide opportunities for education, parenting support and resources to families in our communities.

The Children's Center Head Start/Early Head Start is a federally funded program that provides no cost services to qualifying families who reside in the community. Comprehensive services are provided to pregnant women and their partners and children from birth to 5. Child development, health and family services are provided through a variety of program options designed to meet the needs of low-income and at-risk families.

About the Job:

The Children’s Center is looking for highly motivated individuals to join our transportation team! As part of our education team, our bus drivers ensure our busses are a safe, positive, and nurturing place for children to get to and from our schools.

Our Bus Drivers...

• Have knowledge about federal, state, local, or Tribal transportation requirements. Further, they should know the geographic locale and, whenever possible, the language spoken by the families served.
• Have skills and abilities to problem solve and provide leadership whenever an emergency situation occurs.
• Ensure all Virginia Licensing and Head Start/Early Head Start regulations are followed to ensure child safety.
• Communicate directly with parents to build healthy partnerships that promote the child’s success and healthy development.
• Stay dedicated to our mission in order to build an educational foundation for each child to grow cognitively, emotionally, and physically each day.

We are most interested in applicants who…

• Have prior experience safely transporting children
• Have CPR/First Aid training
• Flexibility with work hours and scheduling
• Positive attitude and strong work ethic

Qualifications:

• Must have a high school diploma or GED
• Must hold a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a "P" and "S" endorsement
• 1-3 years of experience working as a bus driver or in the transportation field
• Valid Driver’s License with a good driving record
