Birmingham City Schools is seeking a dedicated School Bus Driver to transport students along a daily route, ensuring safe boarding, proper supervision, and timely arrivals. You will follow a preplanned schedule, assist with crossing procedures, and maintain order on the bus throughout each trip.

The position requires a valid Alabama CDL with passenger and school bus endorsements, a School Bus Driver Certificate, a minimum age of 21, and successful background and drug tests.

Qualifications

  • Must meet all physical, mental, and other requirements established by the State of Alabama and the Federal Government to be qualified to operate a school bus.
  • Must have a valid Alabama Class B (or Class A) Commercial Driver License with passenger and school bus endorsements. This license must be maintained as a condition of continued employment.
  • Must have a valid Alabama State Department of Education School Bus Driver Certificate.
  • This certificate must be maintained and renewed annually as a condition of continued employment.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug test. Will be subject to random drug and alcohol testing after hiring.
  • Must pass at any time, a reasonable examination concerning traffic laws, state and local transportation rules, and driving skills.

Job Description

To provide the safest and most efficient transportation possible for the students of the Birmingham City Schools district. Help students board the bus, learning which students take their route and planning around traffic during trips. School Bus Drivers supervise students as they cross the street and enter or exit the bus, greet them and manage their behavior during the bus ride. School Bus Drivers usually take the same routes in the morning and afternoon each day but may adjust their schedules for extracurricular and special events.
