Job description

To safely transport students on buses for scheduled trips, including transporting students from home to school, to and from providers, and for field trips. The driver must exercise extreme caution during passenger loading and unloading, drive safely, and ensure good behavior among students. The driver is responsible for the care and maintenance of the vehicle and for overseeing the conduct of the Bus Aide. Courtesy, respect, and a positive attitude are essential when interacting with children, parents, and service providers. Additionally, this position involves performing ground maintenance and landscaping at the campus to maintain its appearance.

Responsibilities:

1. Drive students safely and prudently according to schedule.
2. Maintain good order and ensure students buckle up while on the bus.
3. Keep records of trips, incidents, parent consents, mileage, maintenance logs, and vehicle care.
4. Follow a regular schedule to ensure timely arrivals at school and appointments.
5. Operate two-way radios professionally and maintain communication.
6. Submit all required reports daily or weekly.
7. Adhere to Confidentiality Policies of the agency.
8. Monitor assigned facilities for physical issues and coordinate repairs or maintenance with qualified personnel.
9. Maintain grounds, including grass, shrubbery, trees, walkways, and retaining walls.
10. Operate landscaping equipment such as mowers, edgers, trucks, trailers, and hand tools.
11. Request necessary materials for repairs with supervisor approval.
12. Attend training to comply with Texas Child Care Regulation Minimum Standards and Head Start Performance Standards.
13. Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor or Executive Director.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Texas CDL driver's license with endorsements (P) Passenger and (A) Air Brakes.
• Current Region I Bus Driver Certification.
• Random drug testing compliance.
• Correct vision, including distance, space judgment, peripheral vision, and color discrimination.
• Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.
• Owns a vehicle with current liability insurance for job-related travel.
• Current T.B. skin test.
