Job summary

Arlington Central School District is seeking hourly bus drivers to operate school buses on assigned routes, ensuring safe transportation for students. The role involves pre-trip inspections, defect reporting, and maintaining order during trips.

The position requires a Class B permit with P & S endorsements, completion of NYS Driver Instructional Program within the first year, medical and drug testing compliance, and meeting NYSED physical requirements.

Qualifications

• Class B permit with P & S endorsements (training available upon hiring).
• Must complete NYS Basic 30-hour School Bus Driver Instructional Program within the first year of employment.
• Medical examination as required by the district with DMV regulations.
• Drug and Alcohol Testing Program in line with federal regulations.
• Meet NYSED Physical Performance Test requirements (drag 125 lbs. 30' in 30 seconds).
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Physically able to perform essential functions of the position (with or without reasonable accommodation).

Responsibilities

• Safely and efficiently operate a school bus on an assigned route.
• Check bus operating condition before each run or trip.
• Report mechanical defects to the bus garage.
• Instruct students on entering/exiting and in transit.
• Maintain orderly conduct of students on the bus.

Job description

Arlington Central School District is currently recruiting hourly bus drivers to work up to a maximum of 18 hours/week. The hourly rate for 2026/2027is $31.06/hour.

• The interested applicantwould be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a school bus used in the transportation of studentson an assigned route.
• Check the operating condition of a school bus before starting a regular run or trip
• Report any mechanical defects of a bus to the bus garage
• Instruct/inform students and program participants about practices when entering or exiting a bus and while in transit
• Maintain the orderly conduct of students on the bus
