Job summary

Maryland Rural Development Corporation is seeking a Bus Driver to provide safe, reliable transportation for Head Start children. You will transport children to and from centers, ensure seat belts and child restraints are used, and manage behavior to maintain safety at all times.

Responsibilities include verifying authorized drop-offs, preventing unattended children, and coordinating with the Site Supervisor and families to design efficient routes.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or GED.
• CDL with Bus and Passenger endorsements required.
• Clean driving record required.
• DOT annual physical and TB test required.
• Criminal background check in MD and surrounding states.

Responsibilities

• Transport assigned children to and from Head Start centers safely and efficiently.
• Ensure all passengers wear seat belts or appropriate car seats and are belted in.
• Prevent behavioral issues from compromising safety on the bus.
• Deliver each child to the care of an authorized adult on leaving the bus.
• Never leave a child unattended; follow all safety procedures.
• Visually observe the health of each child on the bus.
• Collaborate with Site Supervisor and families to design efficient bus routes.

Job description

The MRDC Bus Driver provides safe bus transportation for Head Start children, assuring that each child is picked up and delivered on schedule daily.

Bus Drivers:

• Transport assigned children to and from Head Start centers efficiently and safely.
• Ensure that all passengers wear seat belts or are placed in appropriate (age or weight) car seats and belted in.
• Ensure that any behavioral issues do not compromise the safety of any child on the bus.
• Ensure that each child is delivered to the care of a responsible adult (on the authorized list) upon leaving the bus.
• Ensure that no child is ever left unattended while on the bus, following all procedures put in place to prevent a child being left behind.
• Visually observe the health of each child on the bus.
• Collaborate with Site Supervisor and families to design efficient bus routes.

• Must have, at a minimum, a high school diploma or a GED.
• Must have current CDL with Bus and Passenger endorsements.
• Must have a clean driving record.
• Must successfully complete a D.O.T annual physical, and a physical with TB test.
• Must pass a criminal background check in MD and surrounding states.

Hourly Rate of Pay: $20.47
