Job Description

Bus Driver

Reports to: Director of Transportation

Qualifications
  • Meet age requirements: 21-70 (with medical/exam for >70)
  • Obtain a Missouri Commercial Driver’s License, Class B or higher, and a Missouri school bus operator’s permit
  • Maintain good physical and mental health, free from communicable disease; normal use of both arms, hands, legs, and feet; vision 20/20 in one eye, 20/40 in the other, or 20/30 in both, with correction if necessary; ability to distinguish the colors red, green, and yellow; hearing adequate to hear ordinary conversation; undergo an annual physical examination by a licensed physician and present a signed certificate
  • Report to work neat and clean
  • Abstain from tobacco use in the bus
  • Refrain from driving under the influence of intoxicants, narcotics, or drugs
Other Requirements
  • Clearance on background check satisfactory to District Administration
  • Positive student‑centered character traits
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with others
Essential Functions
  • Transport students safely and efficiently
  • Operate school vehicles in proper and prudent manner per state rules, Missouri Motor Vehicle Laws, and Woodland R-4 rules, including "Driver Operation Procedures" in Board Policy Manual
  • Make daily routine checks of maintenance items (brakes, lights, tires, oil, belts, fire extinguishers, first aid kit)
  • Report maintenance problems promptly
  • Submit timely, complete reports with driver’s name attached
  • Maintain clean and unobstructed interior and exterior of bus
  • Maintain order and discipline, handle minor disciplinary problems, report infractions requiring escalation to Transportation Director or building principals
  • Be courteous to riders and parents
  • Be rested and free from fatigue
  • Arrive on time at scheduled stops
  • Attend at least one driver training program each year
  • Report any school bus accident promptly and remain with bus during investigation
Physical Demands

Sit for long periods; occasionally walk, stand, bend, twist torso/neck; use repetitive arm, wrist, hand movements; occasionally lift up to 75 lbs; use close, distance, peripheral vision and depth perception.

Attendance

Consistent and regular attendance essential.

Conditions and Environment

Work frequently in temperatures below 32°F and above 100°F; occasionally in rain, sleet, ice and drive on slippery conditions; often in a high noise level including engine noise and many children speaking; raised voice may be necessary.

Evaluation of Performance and Employment

Under jurisdiction of Director of Transportation.
