Job summary

Mahomet-Seymour CUSD #3 is seeking dependable, safety-focused individuals to join our Transportation Department as School Bus Drivers. This school-year position offers morning and afternoon routes with opportunities for daytime field trips and extracurricular activities, plus paid training for licensure endorsements.

You will transport students safely, perform pre-/post-trip inspections, and maintain records while upholding district procedures.

Qualifications

• High School diploma, further education or experience in a related field is a plus.
• Valid Illinois Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with School Bus (S) and Passenger (P) endorsements, or willingness to obtain required licensure and endorsements (paid training and additional endorsement reimbursement is available).
• Valid Illinois School Bus Driver Permit or ability to obtain prior to employment.
• Current DOT physical examination and medical certification.
• Safe driving record and ability to pass all required background checks, drug and alcohol testing, and pre-employment screening.
• Should be able to assist special needs students as needed.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to maintain professionalism and positive relationships with students, parents, staff, and community members.

Responsibilities

• Safely transport students to and from school and school-sponsored activities.
• Conduct required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
• Maintain student discipline and ensure compliance with district transportation procedures.
• Follow established bus routes, schedules, and safety regulations.
• Report accidents, mechanical concerns, or student incidents promptly.
• Maintain accurate transportation records and required documentation.
• Keep assigned bus clean and in safe operating condition.
• Attend required training sessions and meetings.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation.

School Bus Drivers play an essential role in providing safe, reliable transportation for students to and from school and school-related activities while creating a positive and welcoming environment for all passengers. This is a school-year position, with morning and afternoon routes available and opportunities for additional driving assignments (daytime field trips, after-school athletics events, and other extracurricular activities).

Salary

The starting rate for the 2026-2027school year is currently $20.43 with IMRF (this is subject to change based on our new negotiated collective bargaining agreement).

Appendix X of the existing MSEA Collective Bargaining Agreementanda summary of 2026 Employee Benefits areattached (our existing 4-year collective bargaining agreement expired at the end of the 2025-2026 school year and we will be negotiating a new agreement that will begin with the 2026-2027 school year).
