Job summary

Mahomet-Seymour CUSD 3 SCHOOL DISTRICT is hiring dependable School Bus Drivers for our Transportation Department. This school-year position covers morning and afternoon routes with opportunities for extra driving assignments, including daytime field trips and after-school activities.

Applicants must hold a valid IL CDL with S and P endorsements (or be willing to obtain) and a School Bus Driver Permit. DOT physical, background checks, and drug/alcohol testing are required.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Safely transport students to and from school and school-sponsored activities.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
  • Maintain student discipline and ensure compliance with transportation procedures.
  • Follow established bus routes, schedules, and safety regulations.
  • Report accidents, mechanical concerns, or student incidents promptly.
  • Maintain accurate transportation records and required documentation.
  • Keep assigned bus clean and in safe operating condition.
  • Attend required training sessions and meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation.

Description

Mahomet-Seymour CUSD #3 is seeking dependable, safety-focused individuals to join our Transportation Department as School Bus Drivers. School Bus Drivers play an essential role in providing safe, reliable transportation for students to and from school and school-related activities while creating a positive and welcoming environment for all passengers. This is a school-year position, with morning and afternoon routes available and opportunities for additional driving assignments (daytime field trips, after-school athletics events, and other extracurricular activities).

Responsibilities
  • Safely transport students to and from school and school-sponsored activities.
  • Conduct required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
  • Maintain student discipline and ensure compliance with district transportation procedures.
  • Follow established bus routes, schedules, and safety regulations.
  • Report accidents, mechanical concerns, or student incidents promptly.
  • Maintain accurate transportation records and required documentation.
  • Keep assigned bus clean and in safe operating condition.
  • Attend required training sessions and meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma, further education or experience in a related field is a plus.
  • Valid Illinois Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with School Bus (S) and Passenger (P) endorsements, or willingness to obtain required licensure and endorsements (paid training and additional endorsement reimbursement is available).
  • Valid Illinois School Bus Driver Permit or ability to obtain prior to employment.
  • Current DOT physical examination and medical certification.
  • Safe driving record and ability to pass all required background checks, drug and alcohol testing, and pre-employment screening.
  • Should be able to assist special needs students as needed.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and positive relationships with students, parents, staff, and community members.
Salary

The starting rate for the 2026-2027 school year is currently $20.43 with IMRF (this is subject to change based on our new negotiated collective bargaining agreement). Appendix X of the existing MSEA Collective Bargaining Agreement and a summary of 2026 Employee Benefits are attached (our existing 4-year collective bargaining agreement expired at the end of the 2025-2026 school year and we will be negotiating a new agreement that will begin with the 2026-2027 school year).
