TITLE

Bus Driver

TERMS

Salary in accord with the district salary scale for classified employees. Work year is comprised of 180 days per academic year as established annually by the Board.

GENERAL SUMMARY

Drives bus to transport students over specified routes according to time schedule. Complies with traffic regulations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Drives a school bus safely and professionally.
• Performs and properly completes daily pre‑trip inspections.
• Complies with all traffic ordinances.
• Complies with discipline policies set forth in the School Code of Conduct for Transportation.
• Participates in on‑site training.
• Shows proficiency in handling and maneuvering school bus.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

• Education and Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. No more than four (4) points in the last 12 months on driving record; must pass CDL physical including drug test; must obtain Commercial Driver’s License; must pass State Skill Test and State Written Test for School Bus Certification.
• Skills/Effort: Ability to read a limited number of two and three syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers; ability to print and speak simple sentences; ability to carry out detailed written or oral instructions; ability to deal with problems involving concrete variable in standardized situations.
• Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to work in a friendly manner with co‑workers and students; ability to read and understand maps; ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form; ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
• Physical Demands: Continuous sitting; occasional walking or standing; frequent bending or twisting at neck and trunk; repeated hand/arm/finger motions; use of hand strength to grasp tools; continuous driving; occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds (students).
• Working Conditions: Occasional work at temperatures above 100°F and below 32°F; occasional walk on slippery surfaces; must meet deadlines with severe time constraints; interact with public and others; noise level frequently loud requiring raised voice; direct responsibility for safety and well‑being of others.
