Job summary

Brookdale in Kansas City, MO is seeking a Transportation Aide to provide safe, reliable mobility for residents to medical appointments, banking, shopping and church services, and other activities.

You will transport residents in the community vehicle, assist them in and out of the vehicle, secure seat belts, help with wheelchairs or walkers, and ensure the vehicle is clean and maintained. You will coordinate with staff to follow activity schedules and communicate health concerns as appropriate.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; prior experience with seniors preferred.
  • Must have a valid state driver’s license with a good driving record; CPR training may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Transports residents to appointments, errands, and activities using the company vehicle.
  • Drives residents to events and community programs per activity schedule.
  • Assists residents in and out of the vehicle, loads/unloads walkers and wheelchairs as needed.
  • Ensures residents are safely seated with seat belts secured.
  • Keeps the vehicle clean and reports maintenance issues.
  • Responds appropriately to accidents or emergencies following protocol.

Provides transportation to the residents for appointments and errands, such as medical appointments, banking, shopping, worship services, entertainment, and other miscellaneous activities. Ensures safety of all passengers. Runs event and community errands as needed.

Essential Functions
  • Transports residents using company vehicle to appointments, errands, and other activities as needed, including doctor appointments, grocery shopping, banking, worship services, etc.
  • Drives residents to events and community programs per the activity schedule.
  • Carries belongings, opens doors, and cautions residents on steps and other objects in their path. Opens/closes and loads/unloads walkers and wheelchairs. Assists residents in and out of the vehicle utilizing the wheelchair lift and/or stairs, if needed.
  • Ensures residents are safely seated with seat belts secured.
  • Assists residents in wheelchairs during activities outside the community.
  • Accounts for presence of all residents when leaving or returning to the community.
  • Calls resident rooms for appointment/activity reminders, as needed.
  • Fills the community motor vehicle with gasoline at pre-approved service stations.
  • Keeps the facility vehicle clean and properly maintained. Reports mechanical issues and repairs to the supervisor or maintenance department and schedules appointments as needed.
  • Responds immediately and appropriately to all accidents and emergencies, based on established protocol.
  • Interacts with residents in a friendly manner, providing meaningful attention and communicating concerns of resident’s health to management as appropriate.
  • May be responsible for ensuring all vehicle license plates, inspection tags, and insurance cards are current and displayed properly.

Education And Experience

High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED). Prior experience working with seniors preferred.

Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to residents, resident's families, and other employees of the company. Ability to effectively communicate in English and understand and follow written and oral instructions.
