Job description

Role:Operates college vehicles to provide safe and timely transportation for students, faculty, and staff from campus to and from approved destinations. Must maintain all fluid levels, to include fueling, and Diesel Exhaust Fluid, as well as ensuring all systems operations before departures. Must ensure that the vehicle is clean, and all loads are secured properly in order to maintain safety at all times.This position includes interstate travel; to include night, weekends, and occasional overnight trips traveling with students on sponsored activity and athletic trips.Essential Functions and Responsibilities:The Bus Driver will successfully:Safely drive a 11-56 passenger bus from campus to locations off-campus on a regular schedule.Notifies Fleet Service/Facilities office of any incidents, accidents, mechanical concerns while or after operating vehicle.Reports deficiencies that cannot be performed at the operator level immediately to Facilities/Fleet Services so the fleet vehicle can be removed from service and diagnostics run and/or necessary repairs made.Ensures bus is properly fueled at both beginning and end of shift or trip, recording all mileage and trip expenditures and/or travel documentation and receipts as required.Responsible for ensuring daily upkeep, cleaning, and appearance of college fleet vehicles and for reporting any major problems to Facilities/Fleet Services.Promptly report maintenance issues.Complete daily inspection of college fleet vehicle; all pre and post-trip inspections.Maintains mileage reports.Complies with all state and college policies.Completes and submits written reports concerning passengers and all accidents/incidentsPerform additional duties as assignedSafety:Assists in the creation of a culture of safety and environmental protection by performing work safely in accordance with departmental safety procedures. Operates equipment safely and reports any unsafe work conditions.Bus drivers are an integral part of the community in which they serve. They are committed to safety, customer service and have genuine, caring attitudes for our students.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Knowledge of highway regulations.Knowledge of scheduling system and procedures.Knowledge of record keeping system.Knowledge of equipment cleaning standards and procedures.Ability to provide a safe, clean, and comfortable transportation for students.Ability to maintain a commitment to the safety of the students, drivers, motorists, cyclists, pedestrians.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Minimum Qualifications:High School Diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of experience in driving a bus is preferred. A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a 24 plus passenger endorsement is required.Completion of defensive driver’s training, clean driving record.Previous or current public transportation or experience with large passenger vehicles is preferred.An offer of employment is contingent on passing a pre-employment background check, pre-employment CDL medical exam according to DOT requirements.This position is also subject to pre-employment and random alcohol and drug testing per DOT 49 CFR Part 40 and FMCSA regulations. Must also maintain a DOT CDL medical Certification.
